Apple Store In Georgia Refuses To Sell iPad, iPhone To Farsi-Speaking Customer, Citing Company Policy
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/19/apple-store-refuses-to-sell-ipad-to-iranian_n_1609734.html
A 19-year-old woman in Alpharetta, Ga., claims that her local Apple store refused to sell her anything after she was heard speaking Farsi with her uncle while she was trying to buy an iPhone and iPad.
"When we said 'Farsi, I'm from Iran,' he said, 'I just can't sell this to you. Our countries have bad relations,'" Sahar Sabet told WSB-TV.
According to the report, the Apple store employee cited the company's official policy, which prohibits the sale of their products to countries with which trade is prohibited by U.S. embargo.
Apple makes note of the policy on its website.

(562 posts)1. Um. two things wrong with the picture
1) Sabet is an U.S. Citizen
2) She is buying Ipad for herself, not sending anything to Iran (I think) which would violate the embargo.
The store employee better find himself another job quickly because he'll be fired for misquoting company policy, and Apple begins apologizing to Sabet.

The Huff-Po article seems to have left out a key line present in the Yahoo account: "Sabet is a U.S. citizen and a student at the University of Georgia but the iPad was to be a gift for a cousin living in Iran." The purchase was destined for Iran, a country on the restricted countries list (Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Sudan). A US citizen nor a US company may do business with any of the countries on the list.
