Once again, we are faced with the same situation.
Once again, Obama is guilty of carrying out Republican policies (aka his ENTIRE lack of doing anything on gun control) and once again, the Republicans, despite that fact, accuse him of being a crazy liberal.
Once again, in response to the crazy Right Wing cries that Obama is an ultra-liberal, OUR SIDE is responding by DEFENDING has policies and saying, in effect, "No, no! See!? His position are the same as YOURS were 4 years ago!".
This same script has been carried out over and over and over. We move right, the right screams that we are too left and we defend ourselves by pointing out that we actually have adopted THEIR POLICIES.
Once again, we are missing the big picture. Our guy is not fulfilling the Left's agenda --is in fact acting on the gun control issue like a Republican.
And yes, once again, it is undermining what we stand for and ceding further ground to the Right.
THAT is the big picture I see.
I guess the country and the 99ers just can't be fucked enough for Reeps
and rightwing crazies.

(55,745 posts)It's his job to lead the nation to a better place. He has to stand up and say why and where he wants to go -- from universal health insurance to stopping illegal wars to sane gun policies to stopping the march toward the Reich.
That was the reason I voted for the guy. I don't want the nation to continue heading for the GOP destination of the last 32 years. Another name for that place is hell.

(116,464 posts)an absurd summary.
Here's the reality:
Bush started a program that was fucked up. Holder ended it. Issa, being the dick he is, overlooked Bush's role and went after Holder at the bequest of the NRA. Issa went on a fishing expedition. Still, not a single Bush official was called to testify. Holder cooperated with Congress and turned over thousands of pages of documents, but that wasn't enough. Obama issued a big fuck you to Issa. Period.

(31,706 posts)Rachel put it spot on last night when she said this political theater was a brazen attempt to take a non-story that's been rambling around wingnuttia and try to make it go mainstream. It's the other leg of the obstructionism stool...not only to prevent any legislation from passing but to find ways to gum up the legislative process and make the administration look bad in the process. Since Issa took over as the new "Disco" Danny Burton his mission was to find something/anything to embarrass this administration and try to taint it with scandal.
The specific issue doesn't matter...the poutrage was manufactured to fit. The rushpublican elite knows what a third rail guns are with a lot of its base. These are the same people who stoked the irrational fears that led to a run on gun sales right after President Obama took office and is now being stoked for campaign votes and cash. There's little logic here...just conspiracies and projection...the desire for the right wing to manufacture mud.
Once again I didn't think a majority who voted for President Obama did so to fulfill a "Left's agenda" (is there a memo here I didn't get??) as much as try to do what is best for a majority of the electorate rather than to an idealogical fringe.

(44,276 posts)I see a lot of oversimplification, speculation, assumptions presented as 'accepted fact,' and jumping to conclusions.
The "big picture" is Republicans are attempting to create a fake 'Obama Scandal' to use for the election. Rove and Koch Bros will run endless lie ads about it. That's the bottom line. Check out Rachel Maddow's piece on this Republican bit of bullshit and fakery.
On edit: I think this will take you to Maddow's report:
