(71,265 posts)...not to make it political. Remember these people know more than anyone about this( except those in gov't). It is legit to question Holder , and Holder has had to correct himself on this a few times. SO lets understand that these people are rightfully pissed at their gov't, and that they are not asses.

(24,309 posts)to assume that criminals would only be able to get these specific guns is ridiculous.
They would have gotten other guns somewhere.
The people who pulled the trigger are the only guilty people in that murder.

(71,265 posts)the gov't program was a sting op that went bad. But the parents are mad and they are going to let us know.

(1,383 posts)This is an honest question. Bush, and the military LIED about the circumstances surrounding his death, but nobody here got mad at the family when they spoke out. Please let us not use another family's grief to further our agenda.
I have always felt that a grieving family is off limits, let's keep it that way. Otherwise we are doing the same as the Freepers do with Travon Martins family, Pat Tillmans family, and all others.

(8,556 posts)In the end, I think they just want to know exactly what happened and who was responsible. It's doesn't seem all that different from what Pat Tillman's family was saying in the media.

(8,556 posts)But the Terry and Tillman families have a different set of concerns, questions, and positions than Cindy Sheehan.
In the former cases, it's the specific circumstances of the death that have caused controversy. In Terry's case it was the gun used and in Tillman's case it was the fact that the government straight-up lied about how he died. I think that's what bothers the families most. I don't think Terry's family is against patrolling the border and I don't think that Tillman's family was particularly opposed to the war in Afghanistan. Even if they were, that's less relevant because Pat enlisted precisely because he wanted to serve his country in a time of war.
With Sheehan, I don't think the main concern is how her son died. I don't think that the government lied about that. I think her anger stems from broader anti-war and anti-Bush beliefs. Her beef was more that Casey shouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place because Iraq was the wrong war and the government lied to get us into it.
The Tillman and Terry situations are mostly about specific lapses of honesty and transparency in individual cases. While those issue are relevant in Sheehan's case, her activism taps into a much broader and deeper set of concerns that go far beyond the specific circumstances of her son's death.
But in the end, they are all grieving families who have concerns with government behavior. So in a larger sense they have basic things in common.
