(154,021 posts)which was an ilegal challenge and I called the registrar after that. Surprising and shocking I know, but that woman has not worked the polls since.
I think that O'Reilly is a bald faced liar, but that is just me.

(194 posts)and twice overseas and not once I ever been asked for ID. I lived in big places and small places and it is the same every time, non descript white guy coming to vote, he is ok. I moved to my latest abode (new state) in Jan 06 and was voting by 4/06 in local elections, never once asked for ID, even when I registered.

But they don't just hand you a ballot either - I give my name and address and sign the book once they locate it. The 2010 election was the first to use optical scans and I frankly missed my big clunky booth with the very satisfying clank when the curtain opened and closed.

(8,933 posts)my signature is right next to where I sign. Only time I was not sure if they would let me vote was when I got married and changed my name. But they did. It's not hard to compare signatures which they can do right there.

(918 posts)but I did have to show one to register. I then signed an ID card. When I sign in to vote, the poll worker checks my signature against my registration card. So technically, in New York, you do have to show ID to vote.
