pavement. She is black with four white socks. She has a pretty furry tail, looks like a little black fox. He/she is scared to death. Bit the crap out of both of my fingers, so I turned her in She has to go to the dog pound for 10 days poor thing. Hope she doesn't have rabies. Chances are really low. Poor thing ran to a burned out house and layed down in the shade and just layed there, so I went to the neighbor there and bled all over his carport while he got a box and some paper towels for my fingers. Couldn't get little foxy in the box, so the neighbor went back to his house and got the broom and I swept her into the box. I'm going to see I can see that anyone lost her on the petline.

(163,986 posts)I found this little guy a week ago last Friday. Poor baby was so messed up, he couldn't see through the hair and brambles. We scooted him into the carrier with a stick. He's lucky a coyote didn't have him for dinner.
I found his owner about a week later.

(15,189 posts)They can't even keep the dog groomed. I hope they took care of that When I was a kid we found a poodle who's hair was a mess. We took it to the groomers, and then found out it had burrs in it's ears. We took it to the vet and got it's ears medication. I remember, we gave him a bath before the groomers. Boy was that water dirty, and smelly. I think we drained the water 3 times. We brought him to KMart and gave him to some lady, and told her of his ear problems. She gladly took him.

(163,986 posts)He was a mess of burrs and sticks and one of his paws was hurt. I saw him on a poster, which is how I found the owners. In the picture, he was nicely combed and had a barrette holding his bangs back.
I'm frankly surprised I didn't find his dead body on our place because the heat has been punishing here and there's no stream or creek and he was too little to reach the horses' water trough. Worse, he could have fallen in and drowned trying.
There is a subdivision just below where we live and I bet the people down there don't know that it's pretty much the wild west just a block or so above where they live that goes on for miles, and if their dog wanders up here, chances are they won't see him again.

(77,097 posts)Shot, antibiotics, some new betadine soap. Yeah they do, woke up with it throbbing on one hand. I'll survive, but I hope whoever owns the doggie gets it back. It only bit me because it was scared, but because it bit me, it is debatable as to whether or not the county will put it up for adoption if the owner doesn't claim her. Sucks to be that poor little thing right now. And she also has to be fixed before she can be released, also their rule at the county.

(15,189 posts)I hate seeing dogs and cats in the street. A few months back I saw this dog run past our apartment driveway. I followed it about half a block into another apartment complex. The dog looked tired. So I sat down on a near by step and called him over. Lucky for him, he was a smart dog, and came right over to me. Luckily he had a tag with owners phone number. His name was Bandit. He followed me back to my place, I gave him some water. I called his owner, but he wasn't close by, so my brother took the dog for a week as requested by the owner. I wasn't there when the owner finally came and got him, but that dog was so happy to see the owner and his friend the other dog he lives with.
I hope this dog has the same happy ending.

(163,986 posts)I want to tie a message to their collars: "Hey @sshole, if I get hit by a car, it was your fault". Cats, too, including at least one dead one a week. I found out the little guy I found had been out on his own for TWO WEEKS before I caught him. It's a miracle he didn't dehydrate and die in the heat we've been having. He must have been all of four pounds.

(15,189 posts)And not do anything. I am more afraid I will scare them into traffic. Had they been looking for the 2 weeks? With the way the poor dog looks, it doesn't seem they care much for him.

Good luck with your wounded fingers.

(77,097 posts)left. I gave the lady there the information and she told me that they will put the poor thing to sleep if the owner doesn't get it in 10 days. Saying it may not be adoptable because it bit me. Poor thing was just scared to death. Dogs bite, that's what they do.

I also put an ad up on craigslist but that was sort of useless.

(207,016 posts)Also the radio station. My friend in rescue gave me advice. Turns out the owners were driving around looking. I hope so much that your pup finds her way home or that someone adopts her. She was probably just scared and feeling sick from the heat and no food and water...

(1,013 posts)Rescue is a special calling. It usually means someone has a compassionate heart.
Have always rescued whatever looked like it needed it. Once the love of my life came by after work, and said he almost had another dog for me to take in. Shook up I said, what happened did it get hit or something? He replied, no the people who had it tied to a clothesline pole ran me off.
Here is a secret: IF you get the dog calm enough to hold, lie down and hold it so it feels your heart beating, take a nap or for half an hour.

(23,156 posts)a cat came to ur driveway and decided we were her last best hope, and stayed. After about three days we started giving her food and water. After another three days I took her to the vet, got her shots and flea medication and took her inside. We already had two cats, which this stray was unaware of as your cats were indoor cats. She wasn't happy at first about being in a household with other felines.
Long story short, we kept the stray, named her Gracie, and she was with us four years. After a while it became obvious that she was an older cat, easily as old as my then 12-year old. She'd clearly been a well-loved and well taken care of pet for many years, and we'll never know why she wound up desperate for a new home.
People who abandon pets are despicable.
And yes, taking a cat or dog to the shelter when you yourself cannot provide a home, is a merciful thing to do. It's far better than death by starvation or being hit by a car or killed by predators.
The sad reality is, in large part because people do not spay and neuter as they should, there's a huge excess of cats and dogs out there. A decade or so ago the animal shelter I volunteered at had a flyer that said each and every family in this country would have to take in something like six dogs and three cats, or maybe it was seven cats and four dogs, I can no longer remember the exact number, but it was far greater than the average family would be willing or able to take in. That would just hold the cats and dogs without homes at a standstill.
Personally, I think rescued animals make wonderful companions. I would never acquire one through a breeder or worse yet at a pet store, unless the pet store is working with the local animal shelter.

(37,648 posts)Does he have a microchip? Both my dogs are microchipped.
He bit you because he's scared and you're a stranger.
I hope the owner shows up and claims him. You never know about those things. Even no collar doesn't mean he doesn't have a caring owner. I keep collars on my dogs most of the time, but occasionally I let them into the backyard, forgetting that their collars are off. If they got out, people might assume they're strays.
lonestarnot
(77,097 posts)back where it belongs. One would think that with all the excess dogs and cats that are exterminated that chipping would be a requirement. Prollee cost less money too.
