Zimmerman doesn't want to wear prison uniform in court, wants to appear W/O handcuffs or restraints

Zimmerman doesn't want to wear prison uniform in court

http://www.cfnews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2012/6/27/zimmerman_plain_clot.html

In a new motion filed Monday, defense attorney Mark O'Mara asked the judge to allow his client to wear civilian clothing instead of a prison uniform.

O'Mara also asked that Zimmerman be allowed to appear without handcuffs or restraints. He noted his client was allowed to wear plain clothes to his first bond hearing in April.

"It is unlikely that the interest by the media in this case will wane any time soon," said O'Mara in his latest motion. "The manner in which Mr. Zimmerman is portrayed by the media will have a tremendous impact on his ability to receive a fair trial."

O'Mara claimed the image of George Zimmerman in a jail uniform and shackles at his first court appearance has circulated across the Internet, calling the photo "extremely prejudicial" to his client.

I think he should wear whatever is usually worn in this particular court. No special treatment. Booster Jun 2012 #9

and all prisoners on trial should be allowed to wear civies, unless there is a clear and present danger, in which case restraints are there for everybody's protection.

This actually is not crazy...

I agree with you. It is prejudicial. Nonetheless, if others brought to court are not allowed to do so, then why would/should he?

Still, gotta admit, my first reaction was "Yeah, and Trayvon didn't want to get shot"

it's like the "perp walk", designed to do nothing but make the defendant look guilty and provide a show. Court rooms in this country have turned into reality TV set pieces.

Unless there is a real reason to shackle someone it should never be done IMO

I understand there are some folks out there who won't wear Bruno Magli shoes because they are considered "OJ shoes."

My guess is that in his current home at the Lovelock Correctional Center, he doesn't get to wear "OJ shoes."

if that happens to be prison orange, then so be it.

Why is it that republicans don't think anyone should receive special treatment, but when it comes to themselves, they should?

For jury trials, yes, defendants can and should appear in street clothes, but for hearings in front of a judge, hell no.
