don't pray for relief for Kansas. When you did that for Texas, it almost burned completely.

I can't remember the last time it was that hot. The 10 day forecast looks miserable.

Very little snow and warmer than normal temps. My daffs were coming up in February and bloomed in early March. I have a well and I am getting concerned about the water table because we are so far behind on precipitation.

Fortunately, I do have a beautiful big maple tree in my back yard and it's always cooler in its shade.

I was wondering why my car's AC wasn't working today. It was supposed to be 91 in KC, not 102.

and high 90's for KC. I'd say we made it today.

The farm is baking dry and cracked, cracks so deep when you pour water into them you can't see the bottom.

Only 105 here now, 104 tomorrow and the next day then a cold front coming, 3 days of 98 and 99. Whew. Index is around 113 because our humidity is 35% right now but the air is brown with dust, we come in with dust all over us.

We are killing ourselves trying to at least keep our old horses alive.

You must be joking about the basements. Really? In Kansas? Of course most people have basements here although I am thinking tornados are going to stay pretty scarce as the rain has not been here in a good long while.

It's 94 outside, ~the same on the second floor, 86 on the first floor and it's 68 in the basement (no A/C because I've got no electricity at the building site). I head to the basement to dump heat.

I've learned that there are few basements in new homes in Carbondale, Illinois; Russellville, Arkansas; and College Station, Texas. Apparently shallow frost depths and high humidity combine to make them unpopular in those places.

I've put out 4 big containers of water for the critters. Just had
a momma raccoon and her cubs take a few laps. Last night it was two possums.
The birds are flocking to them as well. I've been changing the water
out hourly, since it heats up to well above bath temperature in that
time. Dreadful.

I worry about these creatures so much!

I remember the days (a few years ago) when there were "when will we hit 100" and they started the end of July. Headed back out. It is 8:30 and 98 degrees. Sun is going down so at least it will not feel like you are baking.

Texas has it's fair share of tornadoes (granted probably not as many as KS) but most can't do basements because of the dirt/ground (clay, I believe?) does alot of shrinking/swelling. I think it *can* be done, but it's expensive.
I'm from the Northeast and grew up in a house with a basement....it was wonderful.

In SoCal, it is almost a normal June, once again less of the June gloom (overcast and cool all day) but not much change. Strange thing this year is the birds, tons of them, more humming birds, finches, (amazing colors and I can never recall seeing them) and the annoying crows. Have never seen this many in 20 years, also rabbits everywhere, to the point of annoyance.

It's very dry here as well. We need rain!

The last few days, the highs were in the 60s, with clouds and a bit of rain here and there. I actually have been cold at night. This is cool for us. We are getting to 86 on Saturday, though.

Such hot weather. My heart goes out to all of you, suffering from it, and all of your pets and livestock. When are we going to wake up???

Tuesday's heat toppled many records in the Central U.S., particularly in Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas. On Monday and Tuesday combined, 11 locations tied or broke their all-time record high temperature, 78 locations broke their all-time record high for the month of June, and 382 daily high records fell. Some notable Tuesday records from our Weather Historian:

115° in McCook, Nebraska is the all-time record for any month. The old records for site are 114° 7/20/1932 and for June 112° 6/5/1933—both set in the heat waves of the 1930s. Yesterday's 115° at Mc Cook also broke the all-time Nebraska state June record of 114° which was set in Franklin in 1936.

105° in Denver, Colorado, ties Monday's all-time record, and ties the 5-day record for number of days above 100°.

101° in Colorado Springs, Colorado is the all-time undisputed record high for any month.

111° in Miles City, Montana is the all-time high for any month.

111° in Lamar, Colorado tied that all-time heat record in any month.

115° in Hill City, Kansas is the new June record, but fell short of all-time 117° reading, and one degree short of Kansas state June record.

110° in Dodge City, Kansas ties the all-time high for any month, which was just set last June.

Wheat Ridge, Colorado (103°) and Cedar Bluff Dam, Kansas (110°) also tied their all-time record highs on Tuesday. Our Weather Historian Christopher C. Burt, who mused that this heat wave is starting to shape up like the record setting heat waves of the 1930s, will have a full-length post on this week's incredible heat wave on Friday. Today the heat shifts eastward, with eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois in an excessive heat watch, and eastern Kansas and western Missouri in an excessive heat warning. St. Louis could start to see 100°+ today, and Chicago will likely have their warmest day on Thursday. This heat wave will reach the eastern U.S. by Friday.

my home weather station reported 105 degrees with dewpoint of 78 degrees....that comes to a heat index of 125! I left the house in the morning to fill birdbath and not again until heat abated in the evening.

Have a berm home and a moderate sized window unit cools the whole house pretty easily.

The semi-desert of the great interior short grass plain is once again making its character known.

Your brains are cooking inside your skulls!



Stay safe, people. Drink plenty of water, have water with you if you go outside, do not exert yourselves too much when you go out, try to stay in the shade, wear sunscreen, etc.
