Send in your membership. Call them and say you don't agree (I hope).
This organization has gone over the edge, forcing Congressmen and Congresswomen to vote for the contempt of Holder, or risk a bad score on their gun control scoreboard. The NRA, like the current SCOTUS, are in the pukes pocket, or visa versa.

(53,661 posts)The fact that Obama has NOT taken their guns away as the NRA predicted in 2008 and that he has shown no interest in the issue since then. I hope he acted on his idea and spread it in the Gungeon.
Our RKBA members could do this in addition to contacting the NRA as you say. Acting on both of these ideas just be enough to turn them or local people around.
I hope they will chime in on this thread and show what success they think they had or will have with either approach.

(4,340 posts)and they're not going to give that up anytime soon. The NRA's 'dire warnings' that President Obama is going to take away their guns have been a boon for business. Gun owners are thrilled that so many dipshits believe what the NRA is saying.

(18,947 posts)and am willing to admit to membership.
I do disagree with much of their political stance and let them know that every time the NRA-ILA asks for money. My counselor (Instructor Trainer) has the same opinion and voices it at every session. Much of the NRA membership has much more moderate views, but has been too apathetic to vote out the current leadership.
I also participate on several gun boards of moderate to right leanings. The majority, while not big Obama fans, agree he has done nothing to promote gun control and do not buy into the NRA scaremongering either. Word seems to be spreading that when it comes to guns, 'better the devil you know' than taking a chance on "I'm a hunter too" Romney.
I believe the NRA is talking in the wind and most gun owners do not consider this election a crisis for the 2A

(2,500 posts)to see more Democrats arming themselves. If the repubs think they can walk around the capitol with firearms draped all over them when a Democrat resides in the White House, I think we should return the gesture if they ever elect another president. We can arm ourselves during a Washington protest just the same way they did and show them it works both ways.

(12,448 posts)a perfectly valid means of controlling the organization, and through that, the conversation. How much do you give to the DCCC every year? Have they ever even come close to accomplishing anything resembling sanity in the area of firearms legislation?

How many members in the Democratic National Party?
And if as you fear, they refuse the results of the vote, they loose their 501(c)(4) tax exempt status. But hey why would anyone actually do something when just bitching about it is so much more productive.

(54,770 posts)on NRA. Why don't you start a membership revolt to remove LaCrazy, Norquist, Bolton, Nugent, North, etc. See how far you get.
Egalitarian Thug
(12,448 posts)have to be that way.
Just like the republican party of the 80's, the insane & the stupid moved in and, instead of fighting them, most of the people that wanted the organization to remain the good thing that it was just left. And there isn't even an equivalent to the Democratic Party, so there's nothing to do. I remember when Nugent was reviled in the NRA because he was an avid bow hunter and dissed firearms every time he opened his mouth. Now all is forgotten and that asshole is on the Board.

(12,448 posts)As long as the most powerful lobby in DC is run by this crowd, we'll never see any kind of controls, regulations, taxes, nothing. Nobody in DC is going to go up against them in any meaningful way. We'll have the half-dozen window dressing reps to keep the anti-gun contingent in line, but the carnage will just continue.

(54,770 posts)If NRA were open to change, they'd try to attract more "liberals." Their prime target is the much bigger right wing population that is into guns, bigotry, intimidation, and other right wing pursuits. You'd be better off starting a Liberal Gun Association -- but I think your membership will be limited.
Good luck.

When I see the tiny crowds for Romney I don't think they are really functioning.
The former Tea Party member, IMO, are paid operatives.
Oops, forgot to mention Mrs. Clarence Thomas -- however, she would be in the 1% and probably pays poor people with no jobs and on Medicare to support RMoney.
Follow the Money, follow the money.
Now, the 1 % are really the Tea Party and they just say their "base" supports them doing these dirty deeds.

(9,748 posts)The "Three Strikes" laws have not one gods damned thing to do with firearms. Worse yet, they wrote** the California law then successfully sued the State of California for not enforcing it against a first offender. Because, contrary to what everybody believed when they were cheering it, the laws not about repeat offenders. Rather it was written by the NRA to apply to anyone who committed three qualifying crimes. If your first offense included three qualifying criminal acts (e.g. "assault with a deadly weapon", "assault with a firearm", "armed robbery" - one incident with three different crimes attached), you got life without parole.
About that same time the OKC bombing occurred. Next issue of American Rifleman contained a lengthy "don't blame us" article by Wayne LaPierre in which he denied the NRA promoting wild eyed conspiracy theories. That exact same issue also contained a Neal Knox article on UN Black Helicopters rounding up all the citizens of a Chicago suburb in a practice raid as the UN was readying to take over the United States.
** Someone is almost certain to respond "the NRA can't write laws; the legislature has to do that". Actually, a lot of legislatures have no legal training and have people on staff to write the laws for them. And, yes, sometimes even an outside organization such as ALEC or the NRA will write a law and ask friendly legislatures to introduce it. Usually, they make changes, but sometimes they present verbatim.
