Obama Administration’s Plan For Arctic Offshore Drilling Safety: ‘I Believe There’s Not Going To Be An Oil Spill’
Think Progress' Stephen Lacey writes:

With virtually no infrastructure available to clean up an oil spill in the sensitive Arctic, the Obama Administration is still pushing to get offshore drilling projects developed in the region.

What’s the messaging strategy from the Administration? Trust Shell.

Talking to reporters about exploration permits for Arctic waters yesterday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar summed up the Administration’s approach: “I believe there’s not going to be an oil spill.”

Really?

Or less dangerous? It strikes me that no matter where you dig for oil there is the possibility of some damage to the environment - we are talking about digging down and pulling up a toxic flammable substance we all rely on - the trick is to come up with some new energy source, have a die-off so we need a lot less energy, or pick those places that are least dangerous to extract oil from.

And other renewables, then all we really need to do is have the political will to make the switch. Given the oil industry's grip on our politicians however, that is going to prove tough to do.

I don't know if we are capable of building a platform capable of withstanding such immense pressures as massive ice movement produces. ANWR would be almost entirely on land..

Don't have thousands of feet of water getting in the way when there is a spill, either. The BP spill wouldn't have been such a disaster were it on land.

And yet another Obama mistake, allowing offshore drilling off of Alaska. It is a risky task, most experts believe there will be a spill, and we going to endanger, and possibly destroy the environment for what? Retrieving a three year supply of oil.

Stupid, stupid.

'Cuz in America, the Land Of Dreams, just saying something or just believing something means that it's real.

Fucking pathetic.
