(D)s should offer to repeal and replace the Individual Mandate

with a public option.

It keeps health care in the debate and makes us look like we are trying to work with the (R)s on something neither side likes. This will just force them to keep saying "no" to everything.

We have nothing to lose.

Offer to change it to single payer universal care

and finally cut the middleman directly.

but stealing their thunder on "repeal and replace" with something that could have made it into the bill to begin with deserves serious consideration.

The ACA was one step, we should take the next one and then expand on it. Single payer wouldn't get 30 votes in the Senate, maybe not even 20, and we need 60 to get anything passed. We should try to pass something that has a chance.
