To a rich man, who could have cruised the Greek Isles, but didn't
To a man who died too young
To a brilliant woman, who fought against all odds:
To the author !
To 2010 Passage
To the woman who ushered it through:
And to the man who took on the mantle and got it done !

(70,810 posts)Watching for the news this morning, it didnt sink in until later in the day. I saw it live on t.v., like the JFK/OSWALD thing, the 2000 SCotUS Selection decision, and 9-11. This was different in scale and different for being HAPPY. But the suspense, or rather first came the low expectation, then the CNN WRONG outcome, the expected disappointment, then conflicting outcomes, then confusion, the possibility?, then the sinking in of the correctly reported outcome.
The pic is from when it passed in 2010.

(24,309 posts)I subtract from my LA time to think about where I'd be if I was in Hawaii right now all the time.
Plus I love how early NFL games are on TV there.
watch the games and go out for lunch afterwards...

(2,770 posts)Couldn't help but picture Hillary dancin' a jig this morning, seeing something she had fought so valiantly for validated by the SCOTUS.
Will raise a glass @ 10:00 tonight - to Obama, to Hillary, to Ted, and all who fought the good fight - AND WON!

Good times for a change
See, the luck I've had
Can make a good man
Turn bad
So please please please
Let me, let me, let me
Let me get what I want
This time
Haven't had a dream in a long time
See, the life I've had
Can make a good man bad
So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Yes, Im on vacation. And Ive tried not to think about Scotus, even though I was campaigning for universal health care long before it was fashionable. But I did have a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach this morning, all the same.
And then the ruling came down; fortunately, I was reading Scotusblog, not watching CNN and I was so hyper that I needed medication.
Health reform may yet be killed. But not today. And never mind the horserace politics: ordinary Americans have just won big.

(809 posts)I am definitely lifting my Martini! As someone who has the mother of all preexisting conditions, this law will save my life! I used to be one layoff away from dying.
Not only that, our daughter turns 26 in September, you know what that means. Her boyfriend has no insurance, can't afford it, neither of them can. I have been living in fear that something catastrophic might happen to one of them, and we would have to sell our house to get them whatever treatment they might need.

(24,722 posts)I only wish Ted Kennedy could have lived to see the ACA enacted & confirmed by SCOTUS.
They all deserve high praise, also, for remaining classy & stolid amid such nutty & mean-spirited opposition from the Republicans.

(42,770 posts)the huge, overwhelming feeling that something good happened to benefit
so many people. It feels so good. The antithesis of the feeling you must
feel when you lay your head down and think "Man, gotta stop this president
from helping people less fortunate than I, who may need help.
I, like you, am proud to be on the right side.
