ANDERSON, Ind. Indianas Republican U.S. 6th District Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence said Thursday that the Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act was like the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.
Pence apologized, according to Politico: My remarks at the Republican Conference following the Supreme Court decision were thoughtless. I certainly did not intend to minimize any tragedy our nation has faced, and I apologize.
He sent out a statement about his disappointment with the court, saying, I am deeply disappointed in the Supreme Courts decision to uphold ObamaCare. This ruling erodes the freedom of every American, opening the door for the federal government to legislate, regulate, and mandate nearly every aspect of our daily lives under the guise of its taxing power.
Despite the apology, his Democratic challenger for governor, John Gregg, pounced: He has the right to disagree with the Supreme Court, we all do. But for him to compare a disagreement over healthcare to the deaths of 3,000 Americans goes far beyond the bounds of common decency. To compare our legislative and judicial process to a terrorist attack is deeply disturbing and wrong. He just disqualified himself from this race.
