How much will your premiums be under the ACA? Will you enroll or pay the tax?
Genuinely curious to hear from some folks who will be impacted

(51,666 posts)which in this economy would still be a strain on the budget. I make too much to qualify for Medicaid, I think. Anyone in CA who can afford a 1-BR apartment plus a tiny bit for food and utilities and nothing else makes far too much for Medicaid - rents are sky high.
But at least the new policies have to cover the screening stuff and prevention without subjecting a person to the indignity of those effing deductibles and copays, which are a real killer for the healthy but poor. Until Jan 2014 a mammogram, pap smear, and colonoscopy would be enough to bankrupt me.

Cali has been quietly changing regulations. One recent change is allowing people to keep even luxury vehicles. They did that since a lot of our newly poor have a newer, even luxury, vehicles.

(1,688 posts)I have the opportunity to buy insurance atm for about $60 a month, $1200 deductible and after 80% co pay applies. I just want to be an idiot about it and by god I have the right to as an American.
Actually, I just never got around enrolling in it. But I will be enrolling next tuesday

(417 posts)for about 5 years now. Ever since I changed jobs. I'm not sure what my premiums will be, I will look into it shortly. However its possible I will qualify for help.
I'm very excited at the prospect of being insured again. I have a wicked case of restless legs syndrome that most certainly would have been a preexisting condition before.
Very excited indeed!!
And so is my husband. We do have medical cards for the kids, thank goodness. I expect we'll enroll, it's what I'd like to do. Not sure what the premiums will be yet.
I have no idea how I will be impacted or not. I do not know what happens if my state (Texas) refuses to expand Medicaid, which is the way it is looking right now. Texas already has multiple lawsuits filed or in the works and it is not likely that that will change any time soon. If I don't qualify for Medicaid, then ACA really doesn't matter much to me because I cannot afford even a dirt cheap useless policy, subsidy or no. I guess we shall see how it all shakes out in the coming months.

(5,639 posts)...but I will be by the end of the year. The fines leveled on employers for not having coverage are nothing compared to the cost of the policies and my employer just let us know that come next year, we're on our own.
In answer to your other question, I'll have no choice but to pay the tax. I can't afford the $695 a year once it gets that high, mind you, but health care coverage is completely beyond my reach. I really didn't need this.

(2,522 posts)Why does your employer offer health insurance right now, when (as I understand it), there's no fine for not offering coverage? Are they cutting back because of the economy, or rising health care costs?
