(39,342 posts)What we need in this country is an emphasis on FACTS

(24,331 posts)Facts can be twisted to suit an agenda. Perspective on the other hand employs both facts and UNDERSTANDING of facts.
Case in point: if 40,000 people a year were being killed in this country by terrorism, there would be armed military patrols on every city block and people would be scared shitless to go out of their houses.
40,000 people a year killed by car accidents, though? No big deal. Nobody is afraid to go back on the highway.

(47,780 posts)"Stop and Frisk" laws have nothing to do with health care and calling the Attorney General a racist is over-the-top.
I would assume you are not an African American male between 15 and 45 or you would have a different perspective on "unreasonable search and seizures".

(24,331 posts)The actual murder rate is barely over a third of what he claimed, and that's counting every single murder in the US.

Its funny how the last few years, people just make up facts and statistics without batting an eye and other people feel obligated to repeat those unfacts without verifying them. I can't count the times I've gone to Snopes because my sister posted something she got in an email or on Facebook. After all these years, she still doesn't check with Snopes first.

(35,392 posts)those who screamed about the "government forcing someone to buy something" ... in other words, essentially, a CONSERVATIVE CONCEPT ... making sure that someone doesn't skate by and get health insurance right before they go to the doctor to complain about the fact that they're deathly ill ... like buying house/fire insurance when a fire breaks out and your house is burning.
(Remember the red-staters who were screaming about the fire dept in KY, IIRC, who were legally forbidden from putting out the fire because the person didn't pay his "tax"?)
