Our local paper had an article where they asked a lot of people about the ACA ruling. Fortunately a large majority supported it but what jumped out were the answers stating that it wouldn't affect them because they had insurance through work. What world are these people living in? Can't they think 2 months down the road that maybe the company they work for could turn their worlds upside down. I am sure most of them know of people laid off looking for work or taking jobs without any benefits.
Are people really that blind to the realities and potential consequences in an economy like ours or is it a "that won't happen to me" mentality?

(82,383 posts)It is so strange how people feel so safe in their jobs. Day to day, it must seem like nothing is going to change in that regard.
Yet sometimes you talk to people whose employers are changing something - making them pay for some benefit they didn't have to pay for before. And then look at how much they felt entitled to whatever it was. They lack bargaining power with their employer, mostly. So they feel it unfair but just grouse about it.

denial due to pre-existing conditions,
the ability to keep kids on the parent's policy until 26,
mandated healthcare expenditures as a percentage of premium,
elimination of lifetime maximums,
and a host of other improvements don't matter...
Until they do...

(32,723 posts)That means 90% are unaffected. Republicans are telling that 90% that the 10% suffering brought it on themselves, they're lazy, stupid, looking for a handout, etc.
Those 90% like the ego boost the Republicans give them that they are superior.
Same goes with health care. It's been invisible for most Americans who have it through their employer. What they're hearing now from Republicans is the Democrats just raised their taxes. Most of them don't even know what they were paying before so I expect some employers to pull a SCAM and come up with an extra withholding they will claim is because of "Obamacare" just to piss off their employees so they'll vote Republican.
