Nobody was a better friend and a bigger supporter when I was running for office...so I came to know his personal name, we talked and we were friends on facebook, and I had to ask there.
I'm not sure of date yet, but there will be a service in Lancaster Ca....
Cancer took this good, good man.
His Du friends loved him and he loved them back.
I just found out from a pastor there...

I think a few puns in his honor, done respectfully would be the highest tribute we could pay our favorite pun-dit. I have nothing BUT respect for that guy. I matched wits with him in "pun-fights" more than a few times here on DU, and he ALWAYS came out on top! He was THE BEST, bar none! God, I will miss him! I never met him, wouldn't know him from Adam, but I will always remember his unparalleled wit and humor! Rest in Peace, Pinboy3Niner, and may they carry you out feet-first.* And thank you for your service to country, and for making DU a so-much-more pun pla--I mean FUN place!
And if St. Peter isn't at the pearly gate when you get there, just ring the door buzzard.........
. .
(*reference to one of our many pun-fights. He'd get it, most of you probably won't.....)

(4,152 posts)My late husband lost both legs at Chu Lai, committed suicide in 1998. I, too, wonder if had any idea how much he helped me in so many ways...too many to even count. And that was before I committed to running for office. Boy, oh Boy, he wanted to come walk and knock on doors, phone--we had worked out the details of his staying here in southern NM from Lancaster CA, and he contributed big time.
The love pouring from DU helps so much, but the loss today is too great.
We now have someone as an example of the best we can be here in DU and out in the world.

(1,948 posts)When I read the OP headline this morning it took my breath away. Many years back we exchanged some PM's when he was working with the traveling Vietnam Wall. My husband is a veteran of that war and to this day says he can never make himself go and see either the real one or a traveling one. Pinboy and I discussed that and some other related things. He was so wise and kind, and of course brilliantly witty.
I never met him and yet I'm sitting here crying as I type this. That's how much power he had to affect people.

The 2nd Battalion, 501st, while attached to the 3rd Brigade, 101st received a Presidential Unit Citation for their actions during the Battle of Hamburger Hill in May 1969; the unit's battle streamer is embroidered Dong Ap Bia Mountain. The 2nd Battalion, 501st participated in Operation Texas Star, which culminated in the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord in July 1970. (51,203 posts)This is so sad. Such a bright light he was.
We can't afford to lose people like him. If the world had a few more like him, this would be a pretty nice place to live in, and we wouldn't be killing and hating each other all the time. Put in a good word for us up There, kick back and take it easy, You deserve it.

This is shocking news. wow. 家族への私の哀悼
I remember one time he defended me, on here. I had posted something from twitter, and had no idea the source was bad, and people questioned my loyalty to the party. I been a Democrat ever since I could vote and would never change... but some one thought I was a Trump Troll... meh, glad that is over.

(25,431 posts)Loved the man. Another damn good Vietnam veteran gone. I am stunned on this one, and I relay the same message from WIlliam Rivers Pitt.
I think i told Pinboy3niner that I could almost hear him calling in a fire mission, in a whisper. Or airstrike. I told him I was Crazy Cat 911, back then. Above him, and protecting him. We grooved .. always.
The 'Nam. Keeps on giving, IMO.

(12,177 posts)I love good puns and hate contrived ones. pinboyniner's were always superb. His posts were always right on, and as someone else posted all I had to see was pinboyniner as the poster and I would click regardless of the post title. It never failed in being well worthwhile. Goodbye, pinboyniner, rest in peace.

As the Vietnam war touched us, we had a connection, and I miss him very much. Am so sad to hear that he is gone.
See you in the sky above and the tall trees, etc, Pinboy3niner. Aloha no, aloha no, aloha no.
Came back to add Will Pitt's condolences, from the world. Peace to you, Pinboy3niner.

(11,604 posts)I hate to say that I didn't really know him, but it is the truth. You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep, and the company that keeps them.
A few years ago, a guy I'd known since first grade died, and even though he was "just a guy" - worked in the office at a lumber yard, didn't make a lot of noise about anything - over 300 people came to his memorial.
So...like that. I'm sorry DU has lost someone so admired and so good.
