Today's vote makes me miss Heath Shuler. Although Shuler represents a very conservative area of North Carolina, he has a lifetime ACU rating of 28.5. That means he voted with us 71.5% of the time. He and others like him would have never voted for this piece of shit bill.

(99,719 posts)I now realize he is still better than any Deplorable who could replace him. Experience is a cruel mistress.

(16,104 posts)The only Democratic Party vote he ever made was for Nancy Pelosi to be Speaker of the House.
He was the worst damn Democrat ever! Stone cold social and fiscal conservative DINO!
"Hit the road, Jack!" No Democrat could conscientiously support this 'wolf in sheep's clothing.'
Now? Replaced by Martha Roby (R-AL) '10-'18.
She told Hillary "It isn't funny" 9 hours into Benghazi hearing.
And this: House Republicans pass bill that would let employers swap out overtime pay for paid time off. "The legislation is sponsored in the House by U.S. Rep. Martha Roby (R- Ala.)."
So...
I miss the shit out of Bobby Bright! Gimme just that one fucking vote - I didn't understand you, and others like you, made that Pelosi vote possible.
Come back, Bobby. We miss you!

You pick it up, smile and don't worry too much where is came from. Same with Manchin. People who criticize him need to spend some time campaigning in WV for their progressive icon and get back to me.

I don't need the stress.

(11,243 posts)if I recall. People who would rather be pure than hold the majority don't really understand how our system of government works, IMO. You control so much as the majority party. The 70% voting record does not do justice to what Shuler ACTUALLY contributed to the party. That was just icing.
Same with Sanders when his seat was the razor-thin difference between control of the Senate and not. I wasn't a big fan, even then, but I was glad that Indy guy from VT caucused with the Dems.
It's a coalition, not an actual political party. As such, there is no 'apostate' to me. Only those who caucus with the group and those who don't. And you are right, between facing the Deplorable Trump and controlling zero branches of government, I don't feel like we can be super-picky about our friends right now.

He treated those folks just fine.
