Orrin Hatch pretty much states the GOP intentions and motives. Unless you are perfect in every way then you are not worth saving or being taken care of. You are a moocher or useless eater. Health care is only part of the agenda. What about Social Security, Medicare, veterans care, etc etc.
They want a dystopian and needy world to rule.

AHCA is just plain, stupid cruelty.

(25,929 posts)they are not actually rounding up people and taking them off to be gassed. Which is what the Third Reich did.
And, as much as I despise the GOP and their ilk, I don't think they are anywhere near doing that. They are happy to let people die from neglect/lack of health care, but they're not ready to actively kill undesirables.

(10,602 posts)Certainly not a perfect analogy. However in the end there is no real difference. You are still causing misery and death and you are still ultimately culpable. Whether active or passive the end result is the same. Denial of care or neglect is still an act of terrorism. In a way what they are doing is much worse as far as I am concerned.
Think of being faced with being told you will not get care when you know that care will either save or extend your life or mitigate suffering. It is despicable and callous as anything the Third Reich has done. Just because you are not directly gassing or shooting someone is not happening at this point, there really is no true difference.
So as far as I am concerned the comparison is more than appropriate despite the fact that the GOP does not have operatives actually gassing people. They are lying to the country just lie the Nazis lied to the Jews. ACHA will change nothing in their words. Totally and vicious false and a deliberate lie. The end justifies the means.

(25,929 posts)As someone who's read a reasonable amount about the Third Reich and what they did, this matters. To casually conflate the current Republican willingness to do away with health care for the masses, which will result in many deaths, with the deliberate murder of thousands and then millions, is unconscionable. While I'm not about to defend what the Republicans are doing, you really, really, need to know the difference.
Germans actually rounded up people and murdered them. The Republicans are not doing that. To pretend that what they are doing with their indifference to suffering is the actual equivalence, is wrong. Period.
There is a degree of moral equivalence, but not a real equivalence.
And I've ALWAYS despised "The end justifies the means" no matter how it is used. The end NEVER justifies the means. The means do matter. And in this case the means are NOT the same.
