I think this is DT45 trump card.

(54,094 posts)Carter got 50.1% of the vote Nationwide. But his 297 - 240 electoral win is pretty narrow by Electoral College standards.
For instance, a shift of less than 4,000 votes in Hawaii plus a shift of 5500 votes in Ohio would have given Ford the Electoral College victory. And that was after pardoning Nixon and declaring that the Soviets didn't dominate Eastern Europe during one of the debates.
So yes, pretty darn close. Maybe by a hair is an exaggeration. But considering he came back from a 33 point deficit in the polls during the summer, that's a pretty good showing
CK_John
(10,005 posts)then Nixon quit and he became POTUS without being elected.
To me that was like winning the powerball.
FSogol
(45,586 posts)Without the pardon, he would have won in 1976.
Likewise, Pence is tainted by Trump's scandals. He may become President when Trumpy is forced to resign, but Pence will never win reelection.

Funny thing, in this administration in only four months is more corrupt than that one was in five or six years!

(54,094 posts)If he becomes president after January 20th 2018 (correction: 2019), he is eligible to be elected twice, in office till January 2029.
But that won't happen.

(1,990 posts)He would have been president for more than 8 years. He became president in 1963 after the JFK assassination.
I remember the speech he gave on tv where he announced that he was not running.

(26,045 posts)...after those elected in the 1962 midterms had taken office. Had JFK been assassinated in November of 1962, LBJ could only have run one more time, and would have been ineligible in 1968.

(1,990 posts)You can find his speech on YouTube, see https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=lbj+speech+i+shall+not+seek
Why would he announce that he decided not to run if he were not eligible?
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)Johnson was eligible to run twice because he served less than two years of Kennedy's term.
The 22nd Amendment provides: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."
The 22nd Amendment was pushed through by Republicans frustrated by FDR's quadruple election victories. It came back to bite them when their hero Reagan was term limited ...

It sure seems like it's been more than a year since he took office.

(11,101 posts)That's quite a feat for a Republican. He's a buffoon. He's not ever going to win a national election. He'd get traditional Republicans but Trump loyalists will HATE him. No path to victory with those numbers.

(82,383 posts)IMO the ones deluding themselves that Donald is a Christian would have a true "Christian" (at least to their taste) with Pence.
DefenseLawyer
(11,101 posts)They are part of the 30% of the electorate that Pence or anyone with an R behind his name would have. You can't win with 30%. There's another 10-15% that were and are "Trump guys". They are the ones with the red trucker caps. They also include the alt-right "Paul Ryan is a cuck" crowd. Those people love Trump way more than they love the Party. Pence won't have those people. Assuming Pence makes it through the scandal unscathed, they will see him as a traitor to Trump. For everyone else, he will be seen as a simpleton. Because he is an idiot.

Seriously, think a little longer before you start a thread. Your predictive posts always come across like an idea just occurred to you , which is why they're goofy at best. Think stuff over. Read a bit. Revise your thinking. Share when you're pretty sure you're onto something.
