Roger Stone, who has a long history of pushing smears and toxic rhetoric, is now calling for the parents of late Democratic staffer Seth Rich to be charged with obstructing the investigation into their sons death.
Stone is a longtime adviser and ally of President Donald Trump who regularly spouts violent, racist, and sexist rhetoric. Hes also a discredited researcher who has pushed fringe conspiracy theories about 9/11 and the Bush and Clinton families.
Seth Rich was a staffer for the Democratic National Committee when he was shot and killed in July 2016 in Washington, D.C. His unsolved murder has prompted numerous conspiracy theories from conservative media figures such as Sean Hannity, Alex Jones, and Newt Gingrich. (Hannitys smears have motivated advertisers to pull ads from his program.)
Richs family has pleaded with conservative media to stop peddling discredited conspiracy theories about their sons death and said the right-wing medias rhetoric has "perpetuate[d] our nightmare."
That matters little to Stone, who is now casting doubts on the parents motives and saying they should be charged with obstruction.
Stone told the Miami New Times that Seth Richs parents should be charged with obstruction":

32. I think we have to carry on despite the family's wishes.
We have an interest in this case that is separate and different than theirs and were entitled to. Society has a strong interest in justice in a case like this, both a case of murder and especially a case of murder to prevent true information about wrongdoing of the powerful from being brought to the public. Seths family doesnt get a veto over the stakeholder position that we inherently hold.
And they dont automatically speak for Seth in any event. There are many different degrees to which a family is capable of being a proxy for a loved one in a matter like this. No one in my family would be able to represent my own wishes in such a case none of them are close to sharing my world view, not even my spouse (although she acknowledges such and would accurately say that she is evolving in my direction).
Seths family complain about associating Seth with a conspiracy to leak from the DNC, apparently feeling that it would bring shame to him and their family. Most of us here think that to the contrary it would make him a hero. If it turns out to be true then Seth himself was in line with our position rather than his familys. If its true then in a way were better proxies for his interests than his family is.
And there are signs that Seths family is under the manipulation of Democratic Party operatives. One more reason to not defer to their wishes.
I do think we can be as respectful as possible in the process (as Hannity said hes going to try to do on his show last night) but not to any extent that would hinder the honest and honorable effort to bring truth and justice to this case.

35. We have no right to determine if the family
Is speaking for what Seth Rich would want or not. We did not know him. The only thing we know is, if he was the source, he wanted that kept quiet. We have no place in representing Seth in any way.
Hannity is an asswipe. Always was, always will be. If he can be respectful, which I doubt, and is actually trying to find truth and not just being a dick to go after the left, fine. But Im not going to hold my breath.
We can look for truth and demand investigation without jumping on every little wild story out there. And, sorry, but someone who claims to have the information proving Seth Rich was the source for the leak, and continually refuses to release anything, needs to stfu or put up.
In my mind, at this point, Kim dotcom is grandstanding.

37. What's at stake is too big for the Rich family to have a veto.
Caitlin Johnstones latest is: Why You Should Definitely Keep Talking About Seth Rich
She makes the case that were at an extremely dangerous moment in time and that the Russia hysteria is being used to constrain Trump from pulling back from the US aggressive posture toward Russia in the Baltics, in Urkraine, and in Syria. And that, for this and other reasons, it is critical that the research and discussion about the Seth Rich case should continue.
Heres an excerpt (much more in the article):
And this is why it is frankly irrelevant what Seth Richs family thinks of the public interest in his case. Obviously yes, leave the family themselves alone; dont contact them, dont harass them, leave them be. But if Rich was the DNC leaker, the life of every single living organism on earth may depend upon the public gaining access to that knowledge. This is infinitely more important than one familys feelings about American public discourse. If theres even the slightest chance that these dangerous escalations can be drawn down by the public learning that Russia was not the source of the DNC leaks, no one on earth has any business telling us to stop looking into that possibility.
So keep talking about Seth Rich. If anyone tries to tell you not to, ask them if theyre willing to risk the life of every living organism on earth in order to silence this controversy. If they bring up WaPos article about his parents or the factually erroneous statement given to Fox News by Aaron Rich, ask them if a familys feelings and opinions are more important than the life of every terrestrial life form combined. Push this issue. Insist that they address it clearly and rationally. Make them explain in detail why a familys feelings should take precedence over this very real risk.
Americas power establishment desperately does not want you talking about Seth Rich, which is another very good reason to keep talking about Seth Rich. The frantic attempts of the establishment propaganda machine to silence the questions (in a nation which legalized the use of media psy-ops upon its own citizens in 2013, by the way) have already reached cartoonish, hysterical levels; think how desperate theyll get if we keep pushing this thing? We can force them to overextend themselves and do some really ridiculous things, which will expose even more plot holes in their narrative. Already weve got WaPo preemptively claiming that even if Seth Rich does turn out to be the DNC leaker it wont stop Russiagate, and were just getting started here.
So keep talking about Seth Rich. Remember, the best way to bring democracy and justice to America is to constantly attack the deep states propaganda machine, and weve really got it against the ropes with this one. Even if its just tweeting #SethRich died under extremely suspicious circumstances every few hours, youre throwing that much sand in the gears of the machine. Every little bit helps.
I agree with Caitlin.

(26,582 posts)I'm confused. Do you think he's a "hippy-puncher" based on his linking and posting stuff from JPR? If not, then why are you personally attacking him? What does that have to do with his post in this thread? You're saying he attacks progressives, so do you think what he explicitly called out is "progressive"?

The ad hominem against me that has nothing to do with the posts, they use whatsboutisms frequently and many others. You rarely get a direct answer from them directly on point to what is being discussed.
I guess that explains how they arrived at their ridiculous viewpoints to begin with.
