No freely elected head of government in our country should allow him or herself to be humiliated in this way. The way this man (Trump), like an autocratic leader, believed he could inflict humiliation in Brussels. Election campaign or no election campaign, in this situation, let me be entirely clear: the chancellor represents all of us at summits like these, and I reject with outrage the way this man takes it upon himself to treat the head of our countrys government. That is unacceptable.

(12,448 posts)Angela Merkel's remarkable statement that Europe could no longer "completely rely on others" was, I think, a first by a European ally. Dump has put the world in danger by his reckless disregard and disrespect of our traditional allies. Germany knows NATO is important, even though it was originally conceived in part to put a brake on Germany after WWII.

(59,511 posts)criticizing Merkel for not having stood up more against Trump. This in spite of her very strong comments. There is an election coming and I suspect he thinks that being seen as hating Trump MORE is a good position.
All in all, it shows that Trump may have increased his unfavorables in Europe -- and one source at the time of Macron's election had 82% of the French viewing Trump negatively. This sounds like the number may be as high in Germany.
This as the delusional right thinks the US is better regarded by our allies -- ignoring that he is likely better liked only in places like Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Russia. (Some might add Israel, but I doubt that will last.)

(3,335 posts)Melania take note. The weasel you married is a little bitch who attacks women because he mistakenly believes it makes him more of a man. I'm sure you already know the feeling because there's no doubt in my mind that he has already done it to you. Real men don't have to make a woman feel small, to make himself look big.

They are still asking us how much longer we intend to put up with him. They know perfectly well that we can't just snap our fingers and make him and Pence go away, but they WISH we could--and would.
Too bad we can't hold a national vote of no-confidence.

(30,785 posts)the free world, as we often call them, are closing ranks against us. We knew this would happen. Many of us here predicted it.
How bad will this have to get? How many years will it take to fix it, if we all live that long?

(31,261 posts)the Europeans will be with us again, as long as Trump goes no more than four year. If Trump becomes a fixture, Europe will learn to live without us.
