RICHMOND, Va. – Authorities say police fatally shot a man carrying an ax and a long knife in Virginia's capital city.

(Police Chief Alfred) Durham said officers encountered the man around 10 a.m. and tried to get him to drop his weapons. They deployed a Taser, but he still wouldn't drop them.

Lowery said he watched the suspect smash a window on a police car and sprint at police after the Taser was deployed. The police chief said his officers then shot the man, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

"I see the guy in like a kilt with an ax already out in one hand and like a knife or something out in the other," he said. "And he`s like marching down the street like he`s already upset. Mad at the world I guess."

September 1 in Texas, it will be perfectly legal to carry an axe, spear, sword, machete, or long knife, such as a bowie knife in public. This guy should have waited and came to Texas. It would have been perfectly legal.

That is the knife traditionally worn with a kilt. Several possible axes -- ceremonial, throwing, etc. Photo looks rather ordinary. Was there some Highland event in the area.

Will be very interested in the rest of the story.

And, no, you don't carry an axe around like that, or a long knife. I ahve several Highland athlete friends. The RHG are in the Fall, and there isn't going to be any event at 10 am on a Wednesday morning in the academic and government district in DT Richmond.

He rushed the cops.

Who better to explain in detail the weapons deployed by a maniac running amuck.

Dirk, machete, dagger, Barlow. This is important man.

I kid. The pipe major thing was just funny.
