McCain held impassioned speech that he would vote "No". Then he voted "Yes".

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/7/25/1683994/-McCain-stood-at-the-podium-and-said-he-would-vote-no-on-the-bill-as-it-stands-guess-how-he-voted

"I voted for the motion to proceed to allow debate to continue and amendments to be offered. I will not vote for the bill as it is today. It's a shell of a bill right now. We all know that. I have changes urged by my state's governor that will have to be included to earn my support for final passage of any bill. I know many of you will have to see the bill changed substantially for you to support it.”

EDIT:
Looks like I mixed this up. This was just the vote on the motion to proceed. My apologies.

It's important to know what the votes actually are here.

That vote wasn't for the passage of the bill itself as it is.
????

He may or may not be around to see a final vote.

6. McCain's speech mission: perfect pr for the Republicans' attempts to kill all healthcare

and McCain was the perfect messanger: war hero, "maverick", cancer victim.

As the Republicans continue to kill any attempt at real healthcare, McCain provided the needed cover that they actually don't want any healthcare for the 99%.

McCain’s healthcare fantasy goes like this: Both the Democrats and Republicans are refusing to work across the aisle. If only they would approach each other and be willing to compromise, the Senate would be able to actually govern.

Misapprehension #1: The Democrats are unwilling to work with Republicans.

See: Obama’s open process for ACA passage.

Misapprehension #2: A compromise is possible between those who want NO healthcare and those who want healthcare.

See: CBO says that Republicans’ plans are unworkable.

As long as such fantasies are sold to the country, the real reason for dysfunction is not understood. People waste time on this dreamland of the Republicans.

instead he came back for a standing "O", a last fix of audulation, and to give a bullshit speech about principle while voting against the principle of standing for the general welfare of the people.
