They've been praying over him more and more. Let's see how much of a persecuted victim they can make him look like!

I guess it's because he's too cowardly to own the intersection of reality and his convictions - the figurative nails and thorn crown a real martyr always has to face. So he flails about crying and throwing tantrums as a distraction and to draw in his base around him as a wall, rather than be a responsible adult and deal with the truth.

But then, he's been a criminal all his life, so I guess this is getting close to his last line of defense. If lawyers can't save his sorry hide, he's going to try to release the Gawd-Zombies and create enough chaos he and his co-conspirators can escape under.
