(46,820 posts)We're paying for the health care of people who want to defeat universal health care. And I'm not just talking about Senators and representatives. How much of the health care for military retirees are paid by private tax dollars? What the hell is going on here?

(24,386 posts)Ask anyone that has a negative opinion about socialism to give you the dictionary definition. They can't. The don't really know what it is, they just know that all their lives they have been told it is a bad thing.
This is particularly funny for military personnel, as the military is about as socialist as you can get.

That is why their taxes are so high and they always on the verge of bankruptcy.

(13,954 posts)On top of that, it's a "GD socialist" single payer system!!! It's called the VA!! Granted it's not run too well but if we just took a bit out of the military budget and put it toward the VA I think we could make it a bit better... Those guy that served and got hurt.. physically and mentally deserve it...

(11,553 posts)not bad but not totally paid for by government. Its the same program that pays for all state workers pers. My hubby worked for Bart in SF. But I have seen teachers and police and firemen on pers also.
They pay for a lot of it but you pay union dues and a monthly amount but its not bad like getting it on your own.
We have blue cross and pay only $150 a month, does have deductible though. Yesterday I got a test for my stomach and had to pay $500 out of pocket because I haven't used my deductible this year.
Even though I have good plan I would never not support Obamacare or anything to help others. Maybe thats what Lawrence meant when he said that, just because you have a great plan at lost cost you shouldn't support losing it for others.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
