but you'd have to pull punches to present as non-biased. I would lay low on the trump stuff unless they ask direct questions, but even then, refer them to Bloomberg and reuters.

for Charlottesville you could get some mileage out of this - describe it for what it is. a group of people disaffected by perceptions of excessive social legislation.

-how did they arrive at this mindset? you could choose to talk about integration after civil rights?
-are their points valid? IMO the people who I believe are racist whites - maybe 30% of conservatives - think that manifest destiny never ended. Just between us, as long as the conservative party stays in power, it never did end. btw from here, you could talk about guns, germs, steel, nature vs nurture, black behavior in other countries and mob violence in all countries (US blacks may be a little more gangster than most).

but maybe you can't if you're teaching elementary school doh

Balanced, or not.

But I don't see how you can post 2 sides to anything frump does or says: It's all crazy, and there's no other way to see it.

and be forced to present both sides? how old are your students? yes in this day and age it's best to stfu, but teachers might have an important impact here. maybe have a mock-up of two sides of a news article and use critical thinking examples to slough off the BS.

it is a dangerous topic to tread

edit- there is a method to trump madness - it's clear that his ardent supporters want to drown the govt in the bathtub - students may ponder if this will hurt or help

it's clear trump supporters want to reduce illegal immigration - there *is* an upside to doing this. personally I don't believe it's worth the opportunity cost, but the trumpians believe it's well worth it. meh you're right stay away from it and grit your teeth it's the safest thing for a teacher whose counting on continued employment.
