http://www.tmz.com/2017/09/07/key-west-hemingway-house-hurricane-irma/The legendary Ernest Hemingway home appears doomed ... an almost certain casualty of Hurricane Irma ... this according to local law enforcement.
The Key West home -- made of wood and built in the 1850's -- sits about 16 feet above sea level, which is the highest point on the island. Law enforcement tells us they're expecting at least 15 feet of water to flood the area ... so the outcome is bleak.

(1,301 posts)It will take some tree damage and possible flooding, depending on the storms direction. As an old home in the keys, it will be repairable unless it's a flat out hit. I was sitting at the Hemingway home not long ago reading a book.

(13,485 posts)Hurricane wind is one thing but a tidal surge that would submerge the whole island makes you wonder.

I am west of Orlando. Normally a storm entering the state west of Miami and going up the middle of the state would too weak to worry me. I am looking at a strong Cat 3 over my house 400 miles after landfall.
Crazy. Now worried about my roof!

(7,107 posts)If the eye passes to east of Key West, then the house will be on the less destructive side of the hurricane.
Only if Key West gets a direct strike from the eye of the hurricane, will there be that scale of flooding. Even then, the house has a good chance of surviving.
This is another panic, click bait articles.
