I met so many of these guys in Boston, bottom the class legacy at an Ivy, couldn't manage to do the simplest jobs so retreated back into academia as career students on Daddy's dime. And they all had that same drawl and the same stock of insults for anyone who could actually do a job and get paid for it. He's defensive as hell because he's not very bright and realizes it at his core.

My college professor grandfather often sourly said most of his students graduated with the degree of A.S.S. This guy exemplifies it.
