Steve Bannon: Disloyalty After 'Access Hollywood' Cost Chris Christie a Cabinet Spot

by Jon Levine | 8:19 am, September 8th, 2017

On his sit-down with Charlie Rose — which looks likely to be a tour de force — Steve Bannon told 60 minutes that Chris Christie was denied a cabinet post in the Trump administration as a consequence of insufficient loyalty during the Access Hollywood fiasco.

Trump’s “grab em by the pussy” October Surprise nearly derailed his campaign and led to calls for him to get out of the race. Even RNC Chief Reince Priebus — who later went on to become Trump’s Chief of Staff — urged him to step aside in favor of Mike Pence.

“Christie, because of Billy Bush weekend, was not looked at for a cabinet position,” said Bannon. “I told him the plane leaves at 11:00 o’clock in the morning. If you’re on the plane, you’re on the team. Didn’t make the plane.”

Before Access Hollywood, Christie was one of the first major politicos to throw in for Trump and was widely considered a frontrunner for Attorney General.
