Last night could have been an overly anxious experience if I only had the radio voices to rely on. When the eye of Irma began to "wobble' eastward two things happened about the same time. We lost electricity and we only had the radio to help us through it.
Man, I do understand now why the right-wingers are easily prodded emotionally. That voice on the box has a direct channel to your brain. For a few uncomfortable minutes It was like Orson Wells and the War of the Worlds. When the radio announcer said, in case you haven't heard, Irma has changed course and is headed right for us, I was ready to completely yield all reasoning. And, you know. He didn't have to say it exactly in those words. Thst's what I heard because it was my greatest fear.
Fortunately, I had two things in my favor. I had a smart phone and I had DU. Thanks to everyone who provided information and comfort. Though the night was without any visible light, I was not alone.
In reflection, there were announcers who did come on and did sound professional, They provided facts to temper any news that might cause panic. I am thinking that it is time for Orlando to shed its small time act, because it is too constricting for a community of our size.
Thanks again, Duers. You rock!
