Power yesterday afternoon, TV on & off today (Comcrap) internet this afternoon.
I feel so fortunate that we did not have a direct hit & still don't know how bad the damage was in other areas.
The most horrible thing was the 8 old people that died in a nursing home when the hospital was across the street that never lost power.
Went to the store today, no list needed because everything had to be thrown out, but wow, it was slim pickings
Friends have been very good to me, I am a lucky person.
Goodbye Irma, good riddance.

(42,775 posts)I got my power back late Wednesday. Got cable and internet back yesterday. My son lives only a few blocks away and he is still in the Dark Ages. It's good to have A/C back.

(42,775 posts)I'm inside the city so I didn't lose water. I was prepared for it though.
Lost a lot of shingles but it didn't leak inside.

(8,133 posts)Most people in Naples Ft. Myers are without power. Of course, all the wealthy snowbirds are up north so we basically get screwed over once they leave. This is where the Repukes come to raise all their money and Trump was just down here.
Hope all their fundraising base dries up.

(42,474 posts)We got power back Wednesday night. I had left for NC but SO stayed. That first evening of catching up on what happened? It was hard for him.
Now I'm back and feel this strange disconnect because I didn't experience the, void, for lack of a better term.
Glad you are back up and running. Grocery stores still sparse here but we have gas!

(61 posts)We got it pretty hard when it came further inland and east. Still without power, they said by tomorrow night. Rode the storm out in my home with all the pets. No severe damage to the home just a lot of yard debris. It was a scary storm- worse than Wilma and the eye of that one came over my home. I'm glad everyone is safe. Just hoping for power soon- it's HOT as hell!!!!!

(7,669 posts)We only lost power for 2 days and I had a generator to power the fridge and a couple of fans. We lost internet before we lost power and just got it restored 5 PM today. Our frangipani tree lost a lot of branches but we sustained very little damage otherwise. We took in an 88-year-old neighbor and she was no problem. Feel we fared pretty well compared to so many others.

(6,255 posts)We're running extension cords form my house to two houses both with seniors. Bringing coffee every morning. It's almost a guilty feeling to have while neighbors do not.

(3,690 posts)We got power back Thursday. No internet yet so still relying on phone and iPad.
Terrifying ordeal. We are not in a flood zone so we have no flood insurance. Our house is on the market.
Close shave.
Irma was a very loud rude houseguest. Lots of huge limbs down and whole sections of fence either down or leaning.

(329 posts)We got power restored today, thanks to my spouse.
She went out to get gas for our generator and saw a Duke Energy guy relaxing in a field off CR 44. She decided to pull over next to him and explain that there were 5 homes on our street that didn't have power but everyone else around us did. He said there was probably a line down, she said there was not. He bet her $1.00 that was so and followed her back to our cul-de-sac. He found that there was a jacaranda tree causing the problem and cut it down....flipped the whatever and the power came back on for all 5 homes. The neighbors were so thankful to that Duke Energy guy for being open and receptive to helping out these 5 homes which were without out power for God knows how long. Six nights, 6 nights and days without power, but I still feel humble and sad for all the people without such luxuries now.

Nobody is paying much attention now but Maria figures to be a huge topic by the middle of the week.
I'm glad I didn't fully take down my hurricane protection. I also left all the family keepsakes in boxes instead of returning them to their normal spots. If Maria is headed toward Miami I'll depart again to Orlando.

About to go grocery shopping in a few minutes. Starting from scratch.
The enforced break from 45* for a few days was a respite.
Friends and family nourished my body and soul.
Cheers from Brevard!
