Most of the prominent Republican politicians and all of the right wing media personalities do and say the same thing that Trump does. The only difference is that Trump is more bombastic and he sits in the White House.

White Male Christians specifically, and anyone that buys into the structures that have held up their dominance over society, will by nature hold themselves up as victims when their dominance is challenged. To them, any challenge of their unfettered dominance is "oppression". When BLM talks about not being shot by police for the mere fact of being Black and being seen as a threat simply because of the color of your skin, the response is that they are whining. They are thugs who want to kill police. When Latinos protest the immigration laws that favor White Europeans, that seeks to exploit Latino labor, then criminalize and dispose of the people who are trying to survive here, they are seen as "invading foreign hordes". When women request equal consideration for equal work they are told to shut up and sit down. The above groups are seen as divisive and polarizing. They are told that they are playing identity politics, and that there are other, larger issues that they should focus on, like getting back good jobs that were taken for the White working class by neoliberals.

The problem with that sentiment is that while economics are extremely important and there are certainly White people that have been hurt by the machinations of the wealthy, the fact is that women, Black people, LGBT people, Latinos, Asians, and other groups have been systemically, historically, and currently targeted for exclusion or at least to be disadvantaged by the policies in this country. There have been corrections and gains, but the reality is that those injustices need to be addressed AT LEAST at the same time and with the same focus as economic issues of the White working class.

Losing dominance over social and economic issues is not oppression. Not being allowed to participate fully, as oneself, with your experiences being given equal respect; that is oppression.
