With the latest insanity coming from the Idiot Dotard it seemed like a good time to remind folks
Donald Trump owned a pro football team and just like everything he touches it went down in total flames

(31,418 posts)He tried to buy the Baltimore Colts in 1986 --before he got involved with the USFL and NJ Generals-- and was told by Pete Rozelle, the NFL Commissioner, it wasn't happening.
So, Trump has had it in for the NFL for 30 years.

(24,350 posts)His brilliant idea of moving the league to the fall is what killed it
Using his glorious art of the deal expertise, he CONvinced enough of the owners to move the league (taking advantage of the Tampa owner's hospitalization) to move to the fall
They lost their ESPN contract and several cities/stadiums

(9,804 posts)My wife and I at that time had more free time in the summer and we love football. The Michigan Panthers were our team. Had season tickets. It was a family friendly team. It was our great luck to get to know quite a few of the players. Tyrone McGriff, offensive lineman, actually became very friendly with us driving us back to our car in the Silverdome parking lot after a couple games. We stayed behind to congratulate the players after the game as they left the stadium.
We followed the team to most of the games within an acceptable driving distance.
When the Panthers went to the championship game in Denver, we attended. My wifes brother lived in Denver so we got to stay at his home. After the Panthers won the championship we were invited to the after party. What a night!
Met Tommy Hearns, the boxer from Kronk gym in Detroit, Magic Johnson, and others that have become a little foggy with time.
Partying with the players was an amazing experience we'll never forget. Tyrone took us under his wing and introduced us to so many people it was overwhelming.
Then along came the fucking Dotard and ruined the league. When the schedule was changed to fall attendance dropped off. The Panthers moved out of Michigan and that was the end.
Hated that fucking Dotard ever since.

Still, Trump fucked it up. He has probably blamed it on the NFL all this time, carries that grudge to this day.
