(46,312 posts)Cruz is lying to get Collins and/or Murkoski to vote FOR the Repeal to save face with their party. They would believe their vote wouldn't be needed and then Cruz would vote FOR the Repeal After their vote, locking them in.

(51,672 posts)under Breaking News on DU Home page! He doesn't support it AS IT IS NOW! They have a whole week to tweek it some more to buy his vote, same goes with all of THEM!
They have been working all weekend to buy off the specific senators who SAY they are "undecided". The mega rich donors are pressuring them heavily. Joy Reid said that the donors want their tax cuts that they already paid big bucks for in bribes. McConnell is evil and sneaky...NEVER trust him to give up (remember Gorsuch?!). Stay vigilant and keep calling non stop until Oct 1st. (202)224-3121 Thanks!

(13,081 posts)With an election coming up in 2018, he can actually do the right thing while staying as far as possible to the right (eliminating that angle of attack). And maybe Texas-based insurance PACs and Democratic groups contribute/raise less money for his Democratic opponent, meaning less money that Ted has to raise; at the very least it sort of neutralizes that one criticism (except for those of us actually paying attention, of course, but that's not most people).
I say "do the right thing" for a couple of other reasons. Cruz and Rand are almost certainly safe -- Jesus Christ would lose a senate race in Texas once people found out he was a communist (but caucusing with the Democrats ) -- but other Republicans aren't. If safe-seat senators help defeat this shitty bill, then swing state senators are off the primary, base voter hook. And maybe someone in DC realizes that a working universal healthcare system of some sort is not only best for the populace, but would help to keep US businesses competitive with other first world nations.
