Carl Bernstein: Russia probe feels 'worse than Watergate'

If President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to win the presidency, its worse than Watergate, journalist Carl Bernstein says.
Bernsteins views on the matter were of great interest to a standing room-only crowd in Hyde Park on Wednesday night.
Along with his Washington Post colleague Bob Woodward, Bernstein, of course, broke the Pulitzer Prize-winning stories about the Watergate break-in that ultimately led to President Richard Nixons resignation. Now 73, Bernstein waxed lyrical about the parallels between the early 1970s and todays political scene, describing this orange haired president as a spectacularly ignorant
grifter who has contempt for the law.
What Watergate was about at its most basic level was a vast campaign of political espionage and sabotage to undermine the democratic political process in this country, he told David Axelrod in an onstage interview following a screening of All the Presidents Men at the Revival Theater.
Noting similar themes in the current scandal, Bernstein added, Just as the Russians in the current instance case tried to undermine our electoral system, here was the president of the United States trying to do the same thing, and if the allegations about Trump are true, that he colluded with Russia, then you have the president again willing to undermine the most basic part of our modern democratic system, which is free elections.
