How to destroy the Republican Party once and for all?

Continue to push for the impeachment or imprisonment of Donald Trump, the criminal occupying the White House.

If he is forced from office, Republicans would desert their Party in droves. They would lose about half of their voters out of anger. The "Tea Party" and "Libertarian" types would leave them in a heartbeat. They would be split unlike any other time in their history. They would probably be weakened for a generation.

However, maybe that is just wishful thinking? They are easily manipulated. And they have a great attack machine to use against their opponents, even without Russian help.

But Democrats have their own problems. They have to unite before the next election. They have to put the last election behind them and look to the future. They have to have a vision for America.

with the current makeup of the House and Senate.

But that doesn't matter. If we learn nothing else from Trump(R), we should learn that the constant repeating of a characterization makes that characterization stick. The difference in how we use it is simply that we should repeat truthful characterizations.

So the more we push for the impeachment and imprisonment of Trump(R), the more people will realize that Trump(R) is in fact a crook who has broken the law. The more times it is repeated, the more the truth becomes stuck in people's minds, the less others will want to associate themselves with the taint.

when I was in college in the late 70's the prof in my History of Political Parties predicted that because of Watergate the Republican Party would wither away and become merely a regional party. Then, Ronald Reagan. 1980. 1984. 1988. They became the monster in the horror flick that can't be vanquished. Even after Bill Clinton was elected we got 1994. 2010. 2014.

So, yes, just wishful thinking. The regardless of what happens to Hair Fuehrer, the R's will be able to put it behind them, and come back.

Six years later Reagan won in a landslide. Four years after that, he won in an even bigger landslide.

But, I'm not sure that we have the same Republican electorate now as then? I'm not sure they would climb back on board as they did with Reagan?

OTOH, they could come back with a vengeance. Be careful what you wish for. Do you really think they would go from Trump to voting D? Are you just hoping that they will sit out elections? Would that be healthy for our democracy?

They would probably move to a "Libertarian Party" or a "Constitutional Party" or just register as "Independents". They lost the Tea Party temporarily in 2010 but were able to win them back by promising them the world.

...but we are living in a very different country, demographically. A lot of those people who came out to vote for Reagan are dead. Also, the Cold War is over, so the Republicans can't use that.

in the Senate? It mathematically impossible for us to get the 2/3 majority in the Senate in 18. We will have to do it by winning elections.

loses the support of the R's in the Senate--as Nixon did in 1974--then he could be persuaded to resign. Could happen. Remember, most mainstream R's didn't support his candidacy until he started winning primaries and they saw which way the wind was blowing. They are not enthusiastic supporters, regardless of what they say.

You are also assuming that all D's would vote as a bloc in an impeachment trial. There is no reason to believe that they would.

That is their goal, destroy the Democrats. Has been since Lee "I am a racist" Atwater.

Neither party need be destroyed. We need them and they need us.

What we don't need is a racist party. Which is what the Republican party has become.

On that front I agree, we need to destroy this new racists party.

And the orange man should be in jail! Fucking traitor!
