What caused a 59 year old anesthesiologist neighbor of Paul to beat him severely, breaking numerous ribs and causing himself to be charged with a 4th degree assault for attacking Paul as he mowed his yard over the weekend?

(5,730 posts)Good guess, if I had to say. I can't stand to look at the slime ball. Maybe the neighbor just saw the face of hate and hypocrisy and lost it.
At least he occasionally has an unpredictable vote, best I can say.
He is worse than his father. That seems to be a trend in politics. W was worse than his dad. Actually, I think as Politics moves farther to the right, inyegrith goes.down.

(82,849 posts)Maybe the neighbor got a lucky blow in and Paul took far more serious injuries than one would expect, but I have to wonder what the whole story is? The charges seem quite light for such a bad outcome.

(16,123 posts)A misdemeanor assault occurs in Kentucky when a person physically injures another person, without legal justification. Kentucky has four assault crimes: first-, second-, and third-degree assault, which are, respectively, Class B, Class C, and Class D felonies. The least serious assault crime is fourth-degree assault, which is a Class A misdemeanor

(27,863 posts)My BF loves mowing the lawn. Sometimes he gets impatient when the grass doesn't grow quickly enough, so he just rakes instead.
But I'm wondering if the people who've guess that this was a property line dispute are on to something. Maybe Senator Paul was trying to encroach on his neighbor's land by purposely mowing outside of his own property? I lived in a (rental) house for a while where there was a dispute about which side an apple tree belonged in and feelings were strong, even thought the landlord didn't even live in the house and the neighbor never used that part of the lawn (and was fine with us sitting under the tree).
Given Rand Paul's Libertarian propensities, something like a property line probably looms large in his worldview.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)It's not really a question of "does he like to do it". Presumably, he has the schedule of a US Senator, and isn't around to do it on a weekly basis.
On how many weekends does your BF need to stay hundreds of miles away for votes, quorum calls, or official travel?

(5,737 posts)Even though some will try to make it political because of their political positions, I think otherwise. Ya see, when Paul first move to Bowling Green, I had a business-like encounter with him. Paul is a smartass. They guy that led that meeting when i met Paul, had the final words that stuck with me. He told Paul that just maybe he should have had somebody read the contract, that understood the bigger words in it, before Paul signed it. I walked away with the guy that ran the facility as Paul stood back and barked like a little yappy-ass dog. I'd bet a dime to a dollar that this was a "business" issue. The attacker is an anaesthetist and likely has done work with Paul.

(7,818 posts)Of course, I ignored the reviews that were added in the past week. If the site used "she" to describe the doctor's education and credentials, I closed it and moved on to the next one (that's just too shoddy to take seriously).
Apparently, the doctor is rude, won't look at the patient, won't treat anyone who smells like cigarettes, and accuses patients of just trying to get pain meds illicitly.
No matter what we think of Rand Paul, it looks like his neighbor is a fucking jerk who is capable of lashing out and has a real mean streak.

(53,061 posts)Paul is an ophthalmologist who has practiced in town since moving here with his wife in 1993 . Boucher is an anesthesiologist and the inventor of the Therm-a-Vest, a cloth vest partly filled with rice and secured with Velcro straps that is designed to help with back pain. He has worked at several local medical facilities through the years, according to public health records.

(5,914 posts)You know, like the time my neighbor wouldn't get rid of the dandelions in his front yard, so I went and clobbered him with a fireplace poker.
The fact that they are all being so tight-lipped about the causes says to me that this is a LOT more than a dispute over crabgrass. This is more like "Stay away from my wife, or the next time they'll be scraping you off your front porch with a spatula."

(183,056 posts)Days later, it remains unclear why the assailantPauls 59-year-old neighbor, Rene Boucherattacked the senator in the first place. Jim Bullington, a former city commission member who knows both men, told the Post that the two, who live next to each other in their gated community, often engaged in heated exchanges about politics; Boucher is a vocal anti-Trump socialist, according to Bullington, while the libertarian Paul voted against an Obamacare repeal attempt because it didnt go far enough in severing federal aid. The F.B.I. is investigating the incident, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
A former co-worker added that Boucher and Paul may have overlapped at Interventional Pain Specialists, a clinic in Bowling Green, around 2010, when Boucher worked there as a general pain management specialist and Paul, an ophthalmologist, had staff privileges. (Its unclear whether Boucher was employed at the time of the attack; the co-worker, David Ciochetty, told the Post that Boucher had sustained a neck injury and could not continue his anesthesiology duties.)
