My Number One Piece of Advice for Everyone Whos Dealt with a Trump Supporter
https://forwardprogressives.com/my-number-one-piece-of-advice-for-everyone-whos-dealt-with-a-trump-supporter/
Im not saying we shouldnt still keep fact checking Trumps non-stop lies, or even trying to debate his supporters as much as possible, no matter how maddening an experience that might be. All Im saying is that we need to stop expecting anything he does to have a significant impact on the majority of people who support him.
Sure, a few might change their minds and theres obviously been a dip in his overall support since he was sworn into office. However, when you get down to his core supporters, the people whove ignored appalling indiscretions that would have sunk any other politicians career, if those particular individuals havent abandoned him yet theyre never going to.
Heres a harsh reality: They dont care if Trumps campaign colluded with Russia.
The FBI could find evidence where Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin personally spoke with one another to time their attacks against Hillary Clinton and most Trumpsters would be fine with that. As long as he won, they dont care what it took, what he had to do, how many crimes he might have committed, or even if a foreign enemy tainted our democracy by interfering in our election Trump supporters simply dont care.
For them, the ends justify the means

(8,018 posts)Some people just refuse to admit they were wrong, too. I know a few Trump voters who didn't particularly like what he said and did but thought he'd "be okay." Now they don't want to admit their choice was bad. Either way, they're unlikely to ever believe the truth about what they did. In Susan's case, she still clings to "Hillary was worse." What a tool.

(53,342 posts)Its easy to fall into that trap
Ive been engaged in a FB group that has attempted to acknowledge that and approach those of other political persuasions in more effective ways
Its still often times met with stubbornness and willful ignorance.
I have to take a break from those engagements. Its wearing me down to the point Im losing faith in humanity.

Norting even remotely toward the center from where I stand has any value - in fact it is suspect and trying to get me to the dark side.
White privilege in a nutshell - be it on the right or the left. Sarandon to a tee.

(9,353 posts)It was much more difficult to find like minded individuals before the internet. Now, one can plug the magic words into google and find what one wants.
I think that the rwnjs then spread the word that the truth was being told on Fox, Breitbart and Infowars. It was confirmation of all they believed.
Pathetic but then, we do the same in an obverse universe.

Is still the battle cry of these people! What Hillary Clinton is accused of doing is far worse than the corruption taking place before our eyes?
Trump voters and die hard supporters are certainly dumber than a box or rocks.

(16,899 posts)At the RNC last year in Cleveland, Mike Flynn said..."Had I done one-tenth of what Hillary Clinton did, I would be in prison." Then the chants of "Lock her up", to which Flynn is on tape saying, "Lock her up."
Looks like ole Mikey will surely get that orange jumpsuit before Hillary ever will because she did not do anything to the scope of what Flynn is going to be indicted for.
The correction was a ? after before our eyes.

(16,899 posts)That Mike Flynn will see the insides of a prison cell and Hillary never will?
Hillary Clinton did nothing wrong. That should be clear.

(7,739 posts)The way you wrote, it's not clear it's Mike Flynn saying it, looks like you're saying it. I didn't think you actually thought that, just a suggestion to word it a more clearly that it's a Mike Flynn quote.

...might be a better way of phrasing that. The way you wrote it it seems like you're saying the opposite of that.

(1,089 posts)I along with a couple of friends tried to honestly come up with anything, and I mean anything, that Drump could possibly say and/or do to alienate his true base of feces flingers. About the only things we could even think would be possible included:
1. Dump calls for repeal of 2nd Amendment.
2. Dump outlaws religion.
3. Dump fires entire cabinet and replaces them with nothing but gay and/or brown people.
The bullcrap outrage regarding the flag came up, and we agreed that if Dump came out and said it's now patriotic to piss on the flag, his base would do just that.
We weren't even sure any of the three mentioned above would be enough to get his supporters to see reality. That's the problem with zealots - you can't get through to them with reason or fact or logic.

(46,136 posts)Proving that he holds them in utter contempt. If he ever came out and called them rubes that he'd conned into voting for him. If it appeared he was laughing at them. They'd do their best to deny the evidence and call it "fake news," but if you could convince them of that, I think they'd abandon him.

(905 posts)while Trump may or may not have colluded ( I actually think they did ) the issue that will do him in is money laundering
Grammy23
(5,815 posts)Getting a look at his tax returns might be an eye opener, too. But one way or the other, it must be perfectly understandable that these were CRIMES, not just taking advantage of tax loopholes.
I watched Richard Engels report on MSNBC last night and his summary included a money flow chart and it made it so much easier to understand how Manafort conducted his money laundering scheme. By having certain large bills paid by his Russian contacts, he avoided paying any income tax on millions of dollars in laundered money. He lived a very lavish lifestyle with zero tax liability. It would not surprise me to find out that tRump has done similar bad deeds in much the same way.
No matter what the story is, make it simple to understand

(15,412 posts)1. I have all my retirement in aggressive stocks. I have made a fortune on the stock market. 3-4 times what I usually make. And because my husband is in banking and he relaxed the regulations, banking is soaring and we are making more money than ever. By a lot. And we didn't even support him. I'm guessing as a trump supporter your income must have gone up more than 3-4 times what you made under Obama! (You should know that the Trump supporters in my family are hurting financially. All of them. And my husband and I are both lawyers and have always done better than the rest of the family. I wouldn't use it if I didn't want to make a point).
2. I want you, as a Trump supporter, to think of the things that Trump has done that he has gotten heat for, and flip the script. What if a Democrat had done those things. What if Obama had said he gets to grab women by the pussy and kiss them, even if it was unwanted, because he is famous. What if he had done that to you or your wife? Would you feel differently about him. Or what if Hillary wanted the death penalty for 5 Trump supporters who were found innocent of rape. Or if she made a secret deal with Iran to given them something, maybe the bomb, in exchange for helping her win the election. You should do that little exercise every time you want to dismiss something Trump has done.
will either of them work?
