Its been a while. But look at tonight's results. And we don't even know the down ballot stuff, the local elections.
We have a LOT more work to do, but for tonight, this is what WINNING looks like.
Bring it!!!!

(1,089 posts)I live in Henrico County - HD73 - Democratic challenger Debra Rodman defeated a longtime repub incumbent! The VA house of delegates races are astonishing- even the most pie in the sky predictions were for 6-8. So far tonight, Dems have flipped 14! There are 4-5 races that are too close to call & may need recounts- that there's even a possibility of taking the HD is stunning 😀
Next year, we're coming for Dave Brat!

But as a domestic-survivor, I can't see the small wins as an open door to freedom
We still have a freak of nature in charge
we are still in danger on many levels
we still have a loose fucking cannon traveling the world, saying shit like "I can't believe how many countries there are."
campaigns mean enough, but till we KNOW they are un-fucked-with we are just waiting for the other shoe to drop in 2018
don't get complacent
DON'T think we have full control of what they canfuck with on all levels
I'm still nervous

(2,062 posts)Well it is great to see these results, but complacency will kill us. This NEEDS to be the beginning.... NOW is the time to really begin the advance. Its great to see these state and local election results, and indeed state and local politics are the mainstay of this country, but we also need to awake the national levels.... keep motivating, keep pushing and WHEN we regain the Senate, and make inroads in the house, we can then again get our citizens the help they need, not cut their lives to the bone.

from the first Mueller indictments to the explosive election results last night in VA... I needed SOME kind of reassurance that others were just as pissed off as I am and that some semblance of the legal system still working... Because believe me when I tell you my next course of action was going to be buying a bunch of weapons, moving into the bush off the grid and starting some kind of weirdo leftist sovereign paramilitary militia or something...
Thanks to all my fellow volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this happen, and never lost sight of the goal or wavered when 99% of the punditry could only talk about how fractured and divided Dems are, and how we don't have any ideas and Hillary and Obama are EVUL and how working class white folks will never ever vote for us and all the other silliness... I realize after last November how much of a struggle it was to get back on the campaign volunteering horse, but folks got it done!
A hearty FUCK YOU to the haters, trolls and useful idiots left, right, and middle who even now are either trying to diminish the victories as no big deal, slander Northam before he's even sworn in, or steal all the credit for the victory even though they didn't put in any work... This shit is SO all up in your goddamned ugly faces... (Democracy for America, I'm looking in your direction)
An indirect thank you to the Neo-Confederate/Nazi/Alt-Right/Pepe/White Power little boy's club... Seeing all these out-of-state license plates converge on Charlottesville with their Glocks and Armalites to rain down chaos and violence (twice) got everybody's eyes open, even the non-political people... And Trump's constant pandering/apologia for this bunch of "patriots" was practically gift-wrapped for us. Here's a dime's worth of free advice: You overestimated by a factor of at least 20 how many white folks were willing to stick their necks out to save some crumbling Confederate statues...
Also thank you to the GOP, Fox News and all the other far-right outlets who literally have to manufacture new scandals/conspiracies each day about Obama, Clinton or some other Dem just to have some content, because that just reinforces to me that you're completely out of ideas.
But it is important to remember that LAST NIGHT WAS JUST STEP #1... We have to maintain this kind of intensity in every race from now until 2018, 2020 and beyond... We cannot ease up for even 30 seconds... The GOP aren't that fucking stupid all the time and even they'll realize sooner or later that Obama/Clinton are out of office and that well is dry so they will counterattack in '18 with a re-tooled message and better candidates... Remain vigilant and keep the pressure on!
