IF DEMS CAN WIN IN HEAVILY GERRYMANDERED VA, they can win in other gerrymandered states

THEN they can undo the damn voter suppression GOP has implemented nationwide (including gerrymandering).

North Carolina - I'm looking at YOU.

The legislative supermajority in that state needs to be DESTROYED.

NJ is heavily gerrymandered too JustAnotherGen Nov 2017 #1
Yep, and in VA, we also have a court ruling that will force un-Gerrymandering. lagomorph777 Nov 2017 #2
Yes. It just requires massive turnout by Democratic voters. MineralMan Nov 2017 #3
Good point...and we may very well have flipped the Assembly or really really close. Demsrule86 Nov 2017 #4

It's going to be a double or triple whammy against the Reputins here for the next ten years.

Why we do not understand that has escaped me for years.

We won't know until after recounts...no matter what those remaining GOP types will have a different attitude.

THe districts are often small enough that staff can hit every targeted door, etc. The candidates also did a great job. They need to be out in the community at events--- more than just shaking hand and kissing babies.

The goal of the gerrymandering that the Republicans have been pursuing isn't to create impregnable fortresses for their own reps. It's to cram as many Dem voters into as few districts as possible, and slice up the purple districts so that Rs can win with ~5% margins. Works well when turnout reflects their likely voter models (a big part of the reason for their voter suppression efforts), but a wave election can turn into an epic rout, as in VA.

The lesson is: Don't treat gerrymandering as some unbeatable strategy. Vote, and get other people to vote, and make them pay for being greedy.
