(1,151 posts)in 2016 because Hillary Clinton wasn't their ideal candidate. Look what it got us. I still want to slap each and every one of them.
You have to take baby steps sometimes. But take steps. Show up.

(1,201 posts)or are you just making an assumption you WANT to be true. Very few dems sat out the election is a better assumption because it's true. Jill stein took votes away from Hillary while Bernie convinced his supporters to vote for Hillary. And Hillary won if you count the provisional ballots and the ones Kobach stole from the voter rolls but non of that really matters now. Now we learned from our missteps and are untied in our ideals and this special election shows we are moving forward to get dems, especially progressive dems elected to office. The FDR party of the people is standing up for its ideals and the working poor and middles class to take our country back from the oligarchs out to destroy it

(1,151 posts)I personally know at least ten people who refused to vote for Hillary. Two I know for sure voted for Jill Stein and the rest stayed home (despite Bernie throwing his support behind Hillary). I cant be the only one who knows one or two or ten people who did the same. That can add up quick.
I am aware that this election was stolen from us. Thats why its that much more important to win by wide margins, to simply overwhelm the cheating and dirty tricks and gerrymandering.

(58,785 posts)It'd be interesting to know what percentage of DU members are "working class" whites without college educations.
Interestingly, an article in The Economist said Americans mostly define working class by lack of a college degree, rather than income or occupation as in Europe, because here most laborers with only high school educations were able to afford what was considered a middle-class lifestyle. Up until fairly recently. But in any case, bet it's a fair number.

(13,923 posts)I mean, all those things were still happening. Democrats won in spite of the R's doing them all once again, not without them. Except maybe the Russian collusion.. They did their thing, now its in their favor to step back and let trump weaken the US, so they probably stayed out of this one

(19,205 posts)redouble their efforts in voter suppression, gerrymandering, and all-out cheating. You didn't honestly think the GOP would go through a period of soul searching and change their party line or their tactics to reach the voters, did you? No, they're not built like that. They're the party of few ideas, and many bludgeons. They don't back down, they don't "re-invent" themselves, they learn how to cheat bigger, better, and faster.
Democrats have a right to be somewhat giddy after the elections, but the real fight has not yet begun. There should be no resting on laurels, and if anyone thinks for one second that we've discovered the magic method to defeat Republicans from here on, you're wrong. Dead wrong! The next time the GOP will come with every dirty trick known to man, and many that aren't yet known.
Gird your loins Democrats. The fight has not yet begun. We're going to have to work our asses off just to remain in the same place, let alone turn around control of both Houses of Congress. Republicans play dirty, and it's up to US to figure out how the GOP is going to suppress voter turnout so we can be ahead of their dirty plans and SHUT THEM DOWN!
So enjoy the rest of the week. Thank a veteran for their service Saturday, and come back Monday, refreshed and ready to go. BECAUSE IF WE RELAX FOR ANY MORE TIME THAN THAT, WE'LL BE LOSING GROUND TO STEVE BANNON AND THE REST OF THE GOP DIRTY TRICKSTERS!

(7,888 posts)What are we doing to prevent the voter suppression in Cali? There are those attempting to split the state into many parts. That is what I meant by "hunting for bear". Also, I detest twitter and cringe when anyone links their activism to a platform that does not unite US.
