Biden says he wouldn't have stepped in for Hillary Clinton

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Joe Biden says he wouldn't have agreed to replace Hillary Clinton as the Democratic presidential nominee under any circumstances.

Biden tells NBC's "Today" show he had decided not to run last year, and says, "I would have never done that."

He was asked about former Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile's book, which says she considered replacing Clinton with Biden because of health concerns. Biden says, "I wouldn't have taken" Clinton's place as the party's standard-bearer.

There was never any reason to "replace" Hillary Clinton in the first place: she never had any health issues. So unless Clinton requested to resign herself, or became incapacitated , Donna Brazile had no authority (she probably didn't have it under any circumstances) to replace the duly elected candidate. It was something she cooked up in her head, for reasons nobody understands.

That should have been Joe Biden's answer. And that is why I agree with him that he shouldn't run. I love him, but he's not that good on his feet with this stuff.

He said nothing wrong. This question was prompted by Brazille’s fevered ego. Biden was asked a question and he answered. You’re searching desperately for something to get offended about.

7. That is less nuanced than what he said

He spoke of how in the last month, the ads and many of the speeches in the last month focused most on why Trump was completely unsuitable. In reality, there is some truth in that -- and it was CHEERED here and elsewhere when she did it. The ad showing kids reacting to real Trump clips where he was obnoxious were highly praised.

In RETROSPECT, it is always easy to say that if instead of doing what was done, something else would have been perfect. However, it is easy because - as it did not happen - no one can rule out it working. I do agree that allowing HRC to run a high road campaign rather than attacking Trump might have been better. There were other Democrats who could have been the bull dogs against Trump.

That said - remember - several Republicans, all of whom had very different campaigns against him - were likewise destroyed. It could be that our news becoming entertainment AND entertainment TV becoming reality TV degraded the conversation and culture to a point where a jerk like Trump could become a hero to too many people.

10. He said those words, but he also said more

He specifically spoke of the fact that the main topic in the last month was a rejection of Trump. He spoke of the ads. The fact is WE all loved those ads at the time, but now - that they did not lead to a win - the questions are on what could have. It is classic Monday morning quarterbacking.

5. He also said that it wasn't on Clinton

that there was no talk of issues - implying that it wasn't her fault that trump got to run the show.

Of course he has hinted in the past that Hillary should have talked about issues more, but he has seen the shit that fell on donna brazile when she spewed her jealousy, so maybe he was being careful this time.

And of course when he said Hillary lost because the election didn't get into issues, matty lauer asked if that was on Hillary. Biden said it wasn't. But what Biden didn't do that really needed to be done is to turn to lauer, point his finger and say "It was on you, Matt. You and the other ratings whores who screwed the country for a few more Nielsen points."

I love how all the media whores keep piling on to say it wasn't their fault, when they are the ones who let - no, helped - trump run away with the coverage and avoid all issues. And who couldn't ask Hillary about anything other than her emails.

9. Nonsense subject. She was our nominee, fainted for a couple seconds.

She would have to have been diagnosed as truly unable to proceed as our candidate before anything like that progressed.

I can't believe people are still talking about Brazile's attempt to sucker those who can always be fooled.

Policy makes for boring TV, lower ratings, and lost revenue.
