(6,212 posts)I didn't like him at first but he's growing on me.

(63,961 posts)just said that too. Also if he wrote a book about his upcoming travels she would buy it. We yelled yahoo when he won just now.

(62,482 posts)made some really surprising unforced errors. I got the impression she knew the answers, but misspoke. 3 times by my count.
Ouch.
The questions were quite tough, so Austin earned it.

(36,501 posts)I'm actually happy Austin won, despite liking Lilly. Here's hoping Buzzy wins tomorrow so we can see them compete in the finals.

(36,501 posts)Battle of the nerds, baby! I'm liking Alan from Santa Barbara, but Tim is just a nice nerdy nerd so we'll just have to wait and see.
The battle between Austin and Buzzy in the finals is going to be interesting; either one can win on any given night, and it's a two night game. My Magic 8 Ball is is sitting this one out.

(27,850 posts)Who ever heard of the Pied Piper of Van Buren? (though identifying a VP's name by going to a German fairy tale is a weird stretch, even for Jeopardy).
I can't say that Austin's my favorite - I liked him at first, but the posturing got to me - but I like him better than a lot of the others. One thing that's really, really bothering me about the Tournament, though, is that they are all inveterate Daily Double shoppers. That makes the watching experience less pleasant for me, as I like to play along, and frankly, I'd rather see players win based on knowledge than on wagering.
malaise
(269,288 posts)You can wager anything but you still have to have knowledge.
Semi-final #2 coming up now
LisaM
(27,850 posts)He's still a Daily Double shopper - they all are in this tournament, though, not limited to just him, obvs. Someone wrote a book about it a few years ago, and how it was a strategy to get large dollar amounts on the board early. The worst, the worst offender of that strategy of all time was Arthur Chu! He called his run the Chu Chu train, seriously! And he never, ever picked the first questions on the board.
Enjoy the game!

(269,288 posts)It's Grandparents week and this grandpa and granddaughter had the million dollar wedge going in to the final. They said fried zucchini (not sure they made the time) but it was baked zucchini and they had the million dollar envelope. Damn! Grandpa looked ready for a heart attack.

(269,288 posts)Buzzy -first time in history a player had zero on day one and came back to win. Even more amazing - it was a runaway. An amazing comeback - fabulous.
