It was an early afternoon in late July, and Paula White was holding court before an audience of about 25 Southern Baptist ministers in an ornate diplomatic reception room in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The televangelist was recounting one of her favorite stories — about when Donald Trump reached out to her in 2011 for guidance on a possible White House run. “Would you bring some people around me to pray?” she said he asked her. “I really want to hear from God.” White recalled that she and another pastor gathered about 30 ministers from different evangelical Christian traditions at Trump Tower in Manhattan. After the prayer session, when Trump asked her what she thought, she responded: “I don’t feel it’s the right timing.”

He listened, she continued, and the two talked and prayed about the matter over the next four years. When White again gathered religious leaders at Trump Tower in September 2015, she backed the decision he’d already made to run. Videos on YouTube of that event show her standing on his right, head down, laying hands on him as she prayed.
's inauguration on Jan. 20. Here's why she is a considered to be controversial choice. (Claritza Jimenez/Photo: AP, Video: The Post)

So here she was in the summer of 2017 at the head of a long table in the Executive Office Building, a huge French-Empire structure just steps from the White House, addressing a group of religious leaders who had been invited to Washington by the president’s evangelical advisory council. With her blond hair, scarlet Oscar de la Renta sheath dress and matching patent leather stilettos, she was a bright bird among the forest of dark-suited clergymen — and, she made it clear, the one with the access to Trump. “The president says hello,” she told them. “I was with him first thing this morning.”

Because of White, evangelicals have “an unprecedented opportunity to have our voice and say heard” in the Oval Office,
Tim Clinton, president of the American Association of Christian Counselors, informed the assembled pastors. “God has placed Paula in a unique place for such a time as this.”....................

...............Trump is not an active member of any church, has publicly said he doesn’t need to ask God for forgiveness, and infamously bragged about sexually assaulting women. But bring up those issues with White, and she responds with the story of Jesus speaking with an adulterous Samaritan woman at a well. “He didn’t lord it over her but sat with her,” she says. “He gets down in the dirty places of life. Does that make Jesus complicit with an adulteress? No. Because you stand with people doesn’t mean you’re complicit with them.” Later she tells me, “I don’t give up on people. I don’t have a dimmer switch. It’s who I am. Until I am kicked out, I will be with you. I don’t abandon people. I just don’t.”.....

Of course, to be a “little god,” you have to do your part, often involving a financial commitment. It’s what they call “seed faith.” White even gives her viewers the words to tell themselves: “So I’m going to activate my miracle by my obedience right now. I’m going to get up and go to the phone.” When you do that, she says, and “put a demand on the anointing,” you’re “going to make God get off His ivory throne.” “Don’t you miss this moment! If you miss your moment, you miss your miracle!” When Jesus raised Lazarus, according to the old King James Version, “his face was bound with a napkin.” It’s taken from John 11:44, so for everyone who sends $1144 (get it?), White said, she would send a napkin she blessed.

Some representatives, like Osteen, offer an easy-listening version that seems as harmless as a fortune cookie. It’s when he tries to interpret the Bible that he gets into trouble, as in his latest book, “The Power of I Am.” “Romans 4 says to ‘call the things that are not as though they were,’” he says, but the biblical passage is actually referring to God.

But it’s not really about God. In fact, one gets the impression that God isn’t necessary at all in the system. God set up these spiritual laws and if you know the secrets, you’re in charge of your destiny. You “release wealth,” as they often put it, by commanding it to come to you. “Anyone who tells you to deny yourself is from Satan,” White told a television TBN audience in 2007. Oops. It was Jesus who said “anyone who would come after me” must “deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24).

Most evangelical pastors I know would shake their heads at all of this. Southern Baptist leader Russell Moore tweeted, “Paula White is a charlatan and recognized as a heretic by every orthodox Christian, of whatever tribe.” Yet increasingly one wonders whether modified versions of the prosperity gospel — religion as personal therapy for our best life now — has become more mainstream than we realize.

level of government to advance a goal of taking it over and imposing her religion on a nation? We let our subscription to WaPo go, so I couldn't read the rest of a very good article.

She's not just a prosperity gospel pusher, but actively working to undermine and take over our democracy.

I'm glad to see this because what religious extremists are up to these troubled days is mainly a black hole as far as MSM coverage.

You do realize it was Muhammed who demanded She release her emails, so the angel Gabriel came down and handed them to him. And before that She was consorting with all sorts of hippy dippy liberals, like that Jesus character. Who know what all She's been up to!

If God is a woman, then how would the RWNJs vilify her? So I compared a female God to HRC. They would demand the release of Godly emails = Gabriel gave revelation to Muhammad. They would say she hangs out with the wrong crowd = Hippy Jesus (kind of like Soros).

Watch a bit of some of the videos with her on youtube.

The religious right live in a world diametrically opposed to ours. What we call good, eg equality, they call evil. The Russia collusion investigation is a demonic plot against the 'divinely annointed' Trump, etc etc.

I do believe that is her third husband. I could be wrong, but I thought I read a biography of her that stated she left her first husband to marry her second husband. She and her second husband were co-pastors of a church in Florida. It was rumored that she had an affair with fellow televangelist Benny Hinn. Later, her and her husband divorced and she married her current husband.

Women are to be subservient. They can teach sunday school or be church secretaries but not be a pastor of a church. I wonder what that wing of the evangelical right thinks of her.

Well, they couldn't when I was going to church - that stopped in 1981 so things may have changed

In the early morning hours of November 9, 2016, God told Frank Amedia that with Donald Trump having been elected president, Amedia and his fellow Trump-supporting “apostles” and “prophets” had a new mission. Thus was born POTUS Shield, a network of Pentecostal leaders devoted to helping Trump bring about the reign of God in America and the world.

These people may sound like a joke, but PFAW takes them seriously, and critically they're only one group in a huge dominionist movement that has infiltrated mainstream Christian churches and allied with anti-government billionaires and their allies. Many of the latter are also religious extremists, like the billionaire Wilks brothers and Pence and many others who've been placed in government positions. The MSM are mostly silent, some complacent, someno doubt afraid to take on these great powers, but also infiltrated themselves.
