Citizens United, Voter Suppression, hacking of voting machines, R coup dismantling agencies of our govt, slashing of social programs, hate crimes, freaking Russia taking over our country, possible WW3...We have REAL news stories here folks, this is getting ridiculous. Any other nation would think our media is plumb nuts....

(590 posts)There is nothing more tiring on the internet than people posting about how issues are being ignored when a big story breaks. It's especially annoying when that big story is so hilariously bad for the Republicans. Enjoy it a little.

(21,506 posts)It's the media grabbing cash at this point instead of focusing on the tax plan that will benefit their bottom line.
There is absolutely nothing being added to this story at this point.
The tax plan should it go through will affect far more people than the Moore story ever will.

(63,267 posts)Whatever tragedy happens in the US, she immediately posts about some disaster on the other side of the globe that we selfish, navel-gazing Americans ignore because we're stupid and arrogant, etc.
Over time, it's clear that the goal is to show us all that she is more compassionate and enlightened than all of us jerks who only worry about the guy murdered a block from our homes and not about the ten people murdered 12,000 miles away.
DU has a perpetual current of this sentiment as well. Post to complain about your neighbor loudly mowing her lawn at 7:00AM, and someone will say "How can you worry about something so trivial when millions of bees are dying?" or the like.

(26,060 posts)It's like we're incapable of having more than one thought at a time. Has anyone ever confronted your friend about her annoying habit?
Orrex
(63,267 posts)Not that I've seen on her FB page, at least.
Also, it's not like the issues she's posting about are silly or insignificant, of course. There are daily calamities worldwide, but responding to local stories by scolding about "real" tragedies serves only to invalidate the person's honest feelings and concerns.

(26,060 posts)could be used to excuse ignoring thousands of real problems we all face every single day. It's like saying you'll never enjoy eating a good meal because someone, somewhere in the world is hungry. Not that we should ignore hunger, but it's like we have no right to feel joy if anyone, anywhere is suffering. That would be a very depressing way to live.
If you complain about something, like how humid it is, you get a reply about how you don't know humidity, spend some time in Bangkok and you'll know hot; not being able to open a jar of pickles: "Well, if THAT'S your only problem." You literally can't say anything. The most annoying are those who believe every conspiracy theory about America, that shooting victims are actors, the U.S. government murders everyone with drones, President Obama couldn't give a speech without teleprompters and was born in Kenya, but heaven forbid you say anything the least bit negative about THEIR country. Oh no, that's rude. Call Americans fat, ugly, stupid, greedy, arrogant, etc., everyone knows it's true so what's the problem.

(63,267 posts)I ended a friendship with one guy when he asserted that Sandy Hook was a false flag operation. Honestly, that was as close as I've ever gotten to punching someone in the mouth.
For the record, though, the person I mentioned about is not a conspiracy theorist. She's quirky, but I wouldn't want to malign her in that way!

(2,120 posts)... I've run afoul of what I would term the "overly PC" types here on DU who, as someone else described (and I paraphrase) fall over themselves to prove they're more liberal than anyone else.
On one memorable occasion I posted a criticism of people who insist on backing into parking spaces even though they're terrible at doing so, and it takes 2-3 tries of pulling forward, rolling back, adjusting the wheel, etc. as meanwhile everyone else is inconvenienced because the driver has to get their car "just so" and too bad if you have to wait.
I was called intolerant, impatient, overly reactive; it was insinuated I was a jerk, not the rude driver; I needed to "calm down and take a deep breath" and so on and so forth.

(11,936 posts)Because by chasing this story, that is now very much a possibility. I don't know how you can't see why gaining another Senate seat isn't a good thing in regard to the issues.

(3,626 posts)the beginning of time -- the abuse and denigrating of women by men with power. We should keep it up until there is an awareness and admission of the chronic, pervasive problem. If we let it go, the result would be that yet another sexual offender (like the pResident) gains even more power and women lose credibility. We let THAT one go, didn't we, and look what it got us. Also ask yourself exactly what "chased squirrel" involving Hillary, Bill, or Barack was EVER dropped? And yes, there are other important issues but until women have the same rights of credibility, autonomy, and yes, power, other things won't matter much.

(32,033 posts)Do so - and it will help you filter this out.
It's probably triggering your sense of powerless and that's why you engaged in outward activism.
If you don't filter it out - join Indivisible. That will give you your hippie powers back.

(5,611 posts)more attention soon when the really bad numbers come out. The Moore story is a huge deal, and Trump's place in it is going to become more visible. He's going to be asked questions directly, and he won't be able to run out of the room like he did today. It's already having a big effect on the polling numbers and that's very important for next year.

(54,505 posts)I'd say that would be a 9.0 on the Richter scale when it happens in Alabama.
I'm willing to chase this one for a while longer.

(21,506 posts)We have not held that seat for decades. The idea that seat Trump's the real damage the tax plan will do is whistling past the graveyard imho.

(21,506 posts)And the coverage that is focused solely on Moore to the exclusion of everything else.
Democrats can certainly concentrate on more than one thing at a time the media not so much.
This thread and my responses have absolutely nothing to do with the attention span of Democrats.

(6,859 posts)For several weeks now, the country had been seeing sexual bullies get what's coming to them. Sooner or later we will go on to other things. But while we have the Spotlight, let every single one of these assholes worry and wonder when they're going to be exposed. And let every victim know that the abuser may one day feel the shame that was dumped on the victim. I for one am enjoying their paranoia.

(21,506 posts)While we Chase Moore's pedophilia the repukes are getting ready to pass the worst tax reform in a generation.

(15,326 posts)How long we gonna chase Citizens United Chipmunk! Come on, folks, we gotta ignore the Voter Suppression Vulture! Don't be distracted!
Please. A man running for Senate raped and harassed 14-year-olds. If that's not a story worthy of focus, nothing is.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)Meanwhile the pukes are pushing forward a tax plan that is going to have a huge impact on this country in myriad negative ways.
The people who will benefit from it are the ones feeding you this Roy Moore story 24/7
Yes it should be covered but not at the expense of everything else .
kcr
(15,326 posts)Okay, no. I'm not going to normalize child rape in order to thwart the GOP's diabolical chlld-rape-as-shield for their GOP tax plan. I hate to break it to you, but I don't think most other people are going to jump on board, either. It's not a good look for our side.

(37,748 posts)"So what is being added to the storyline at this point?"
New victims of sexual assault. New members of the GOP establishment dropping their support for him.
"Yes it should be covered but not at the expense of everything else..."
Where specifically is it being covered to the expense of everything else?
Your melodramatic inaccuracies are illustrating that your bias is outweighing rational though in regards to this story. No one is distracted... other than those who consistently allege, lacking any evidence to support it, that everyone else is distracted.

(30,481 posts)This is such a poor argument. We are winning the news cycle every day as the minority party and you want us to focus more on things we have little power to currently change. I dont think you know what CU is if you think now is the time to beat it like a drum.
Its not like leaders arent talking about the things you mention. We seem to be able to do more than one thing at a time.

(32,033 posts)As long as we want. Your next best bet is to reach out to Admin and have them place a ban on posting about it or referencing it.
Or - the GD Hosts and they can start locking all of the OPs regarding it.
Good, bad, indifferent -it's going on. And all that stuff you personally feel is MORE Important (you personally - not my priorities personally) - but what you, you , you want to talk about -
You can get there with another Democratic Senator.
You, you, you get what you want when 'we' work on the stuff you don't like because it's not what you, you, you want.

(36,402 posts)You just wrote an OP about it. Don't play into the GOP's plan. Use the trash this thread and auto trash by keyword features that we have here at DU. That way you won't get sucked into this and can just concentrate on real news stories.
