Citizens United, Voter Suppression, hacking of voting machines, R coup dismantling agencies of our govt, slashing of social programs, hate crimes, freaking Russia taking over our country, possible WW3...We have REAL news stories here folks, this is getting ridiculous. Any other nation would think our media is plumb nuts....

It's the media grabbing cash at this point instead of focusing on the tax plan that will benefit their bottom line.

There is absolutely nothing being added to this story at this point.

The tax plan should it go through will affect far more people than the Moore story ever will.

Whatever tragedy happens in the US, she immediately posts about some disaster on the other side of the globe that we selfish, navel-gazing Americans ignore because we're stupid and arrogant, etc.

Over time, it's clear that the goal is to show us all that she is more compassionate and enlightened than all of us jerks who only worry about the guy murdered a block from our homes and not about the ten people murdered 12,000 miles away.

DU has a perpetual current of this sentiment as well. Post to complain about your neighbor loudly mowing her lawn at 7:00AM, and someone will say "How can you worry about something so trivial when millions of bees are dying?" or the like.

Also, it's not like the issues she's posting about are silly or insignificant, of course. There are daily calamities worldwide, but responding to local stories by scolding about "real" tragedies serves only to invalidate the person's honest feelings and concerns.

could be used to excuse ignoring thousands of real problems we all face every single day. It's like saying you'll never enjoy eating a good meal because someone, somewhere in the world is hungry. Not that we should ignore hunger, but it's like we have no right to feel joy if anyone, anywhere is suffering. That would be a very depressing way to live.

If you complain about something, like how humid it is, you get a reply about how you don't know humidity, spend some time in Bangkok and you'll know hot; not being able to open a jar of pickles: "Well, if THAT'S your only problem." You literally can't say anything. The most annoying are those who believe every conspiracy theory about America, that shooting victims are actors, the U.S. government murders everyone with drones, President Obama couldn't give a speech without teleprompters and was born in Kenya, but heaven forbid you say anything the least bit negative about THEIR country. Oh no, that's rude. Call Americans fat, ugly, stupid, greedy, arrogant, etc., everyone knows it's true so what's the problem.

... I've run afoul of what I would term the "overly PC" types here on DU who, as someone else described (and I paraphrase) fall over themselves to prove they're more liberal than anyone else.

On one memorable occasion I posted a criticism of people who insist on backing into parking spaces even though they're terrible at doing so, and it takes 2-3 tries of pulling forward, rolling back, adjusting the wheel, etc. as meanwhile everyone else is inconvenienced because the driver has to get their car "just so" and too bad if you have to wait.

I was called intolerant, impatient, overly reactive; it was insinuated I was a jerk, not the rude driver; I needed to "calm down and take a deep breath" and so on and so forth.

the beginning of time -- the abuse and denigrating of women by men with power. We should keep it up until there is an awareness and admission of the chronic, pervasive problem. If we let it go, the result would be that yet another sexual offender (like the pResident) gains even more power and women lose credibility. We let THAT one go, didn't we, and look what it got us. Also ask yourself exactly what "chased squirrel" involving Hillary, Bill, or Barack was EVER dropped? And yes, there are other important issues but until women have the same rights of credibility, autonomy, and yes, power, other things won't matter much.

He's going to be asked questions directly, and he won't be able to run out of the room like he did today. It's already having a big effect on the polling numbers and that's very important for next year.

For several weeks now, the country had been seeing sexual bullies get what's coming to them. Sooner or later we will go on to other things. But while we have the Spotlight, let every single one of these assholes worry and wonder when they're going to be exposed.
