Fight Over Moore Beginning to Divide Alabama GOP
By Ed Kilgore
... Governor Kay Ivey has begun hedging on her earlier announcement that she would vote for Moore; now she says she intends to vote for him but will "hold judgment" .. until all..e facts are in. And a bit less ambivalently .. Richard Shelby, is saying: "I'll vote Republican but I will probably write in a good candidate" ...
... Alabama GOP chair Terry Lathan .. is thundering against any Republican who considers abandoning Roy ...
Lathan went on to cite a party rule that lets her deny anyone ballot access via the GOP if they endorse another partys candidate. She clearly thinks that applies to endorsing write-in candidates as well.
... Shelby just won reelection last year, and perhaps hes not interested in running .. in 2022, when hed be 88. But Lathan may have to back down if a .. popular Alabama Republican runs as a write-in candidate, or if the Republican president of the United States, or his attorney general, endorses a write-in candidate. Otherwise Alabama Republicans may soon be looking for another chair.

This story is done brought tears to my rheumy old eyes. But it might could come out even sadder. Supposing Alabama was actually to elect Roy. And then suppose all them evil Dems was to drape him good around the GOP's neck like some roadkill skunk. Or maybe Roy might even could lose by a thin edge: then the Alabama GOP would be drawing knives on all their kinfolk something awful
