Today (I Kid you not) is International MEN'S Day

From Wikipedia:

The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day, set out in "The Six Pillars of International Men's Day", include focusing on men's and boys' health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values.

It's not like chasing after young members of the opposite sex is exclusive to men.

Happened to my dad at 12, he thought he was the luckiest boy in the world until the boys compared notes and realized she'd done the same act to get them in her home to all of them.

10. There's an interesting double standard between men and women

If a guy loses his virginity early it's considered a badge of honor and something people should look up to. If it's a girl then she either got violated/taken advantage of, or she's a slut and should be shamed.

4. Not all men want this day. Here's a page that give some history of it.

https://www.avoiceformen.com/mens-rights/resistance-to-international-mens-day/

Thomas Oaster was the Director of the Missouri Center for Men’s Studies and employed as Associate Professor at the University of Missouri, Kansas City where he taught classes on men’s issues. That’s right, classes on real men’s issues. He told of how he first became attracted to the men’s movement by an intellectual interest, but quickly came to feel persecuted for his association with this politically incorrect subject. “I got beat up, slammed” reports Oaster, “People said, ‘What – do you hate women?’ The more I got beat up, the more I got drawn in. My Teutonic background took over.” [1].

The first IMD event was launched on February 7, 1992 for the purpose of what he said was “drawing positive attention to important [men’s] issues.” [2] The event was successful both in 1992 and again in 1993 and 1994.[3] People in four continents celebrated and guests at the various events came along to hear speakers talk on topics ranging from the “silent tragedy of men’s health” to “man bashing” and to share, talk, wine and dine.

The founder is a big MRA sort of fellow.

Is because of some of the outcomes from the patriarchal system they work to maintain? Ok

It reminds me of the question a child asks,

"Why isn't there a Kids' Day?"

"Everyday is Kids's Day," says the parents.

Maybe the victims need to look at joining the rest of us to overthrow the corrupt parts of a patriarchal system that brought them to heel in the first place.

9. I see nothing wrong what so ever with considering these issues and statistics

I do however have a problem with the behavior and attitude of many within the men's rights "movement.".

There ought to be enough room to discuss and work towards solutions to serious problems without devolving to petty name calling, broad brush characterizations and stereotype.

I feel that way regardless of the group people chose to align themselves with, male or female.

Men have privilege in society, but that doesn't mean there aren't many issue to resolve. A day of celebration would be pointless, but a day to draw attention to issues and open up discussions about possible solutions isn't in any way a negative.

12. It's not appropriate
Sun Nov 19, 2017, 03:25 PM
Nov 2017

The past few days many progressives failed a test of whether they truly support women who challenge the patriarchal arrangement that has empowered men to routinely sexually abuse women without conscience or consequence.
As women have been coming forward it wasn't long before progressives once again embrace that system and the universal offensive defense because he's one of our own. Worse than that, there is a refusal to question whether the most controversial victim was treated badly while a powerful man was not only given a pass because she flashed her thong- he was and continues to enjoy popularity and respect.
We had another opportunity to prove that a justice minded culture will not follow the pattern of maligning an accusor when someone we support gets caught. Franken was handling it consistent with support for the challenge that was opening. Then some progressives appropriated the standard irrational search to work to discredit an accusor by assigning motives and reinterpreting her story to defend an inconvenient example of what we have been trying to address.
To his great credit, he is not the one who is working to ensure the system that has accepted sexual abuse of women continues to protect and benefit men who take advantage of it. Sadly, some supporters make the same arguments as those who defend the most egregious predators.

work?

But then again we need this day like we need white appreciation month.

Jeez aren't these the same type that complain when everybody gets an appreciation award? Yet they are demanding kind of the same thing with these stupid, little, petty, hiss-ie fits wanting their own day or month? Please. What a bunch of whiners.

85% of homeless are men

Yet Republicans want to make it harder to get mental healthcare.

16. I don't mind if men have a day like this
Mon Nov 20, 2017, 07:18 PM

What I do mind is the false and misleading stats they are using to make it look like men are the only true victims of society. Instead of focusing on problems in a constructive way and putting forth solutions, they seem to be content with playing the victim.

Yes the suicide rate is far higher for men. Being omitted is Self inflicted gun shot wound is the #1 method for men and poisoning is the #1 method for women. Women have a higher rate for suicide attempts, but guns are final. How much lower would the suicide rate for men be if guns were not so easily available or removed from the home if a person is suicidal? What part does the patriarchy play in the male gun worshipping crowd that enables these questions from even being asked? Why isn't this group trying to actually do something about it?

The latest stats I can find on homeless men... Homeless single men 44%, I haven't been able to find 1 legitimate source or study that says 85%.

https://www.statisticbrain.com/homelessness-stats/

Homicide rate for men is really 77.4%. What they are completely ignoring is that 90.3% of the offenders are male. So again they appear to be playing a victim, instead of concerning themselves with solutions to male on male violence.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/crime-in-the-u.s.-2010/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded/expandhomicidemain

The 40% domestic abuse claim is based on a dubious study by an MRA group in the UK.

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2010/sep/05/men-victims-domestic-violence

now for the actual US stats 80- 85% of the victims are women.

http://fairfaxdvcommunity.org/files/documents/Domestic-Violence-Stats.pdf

By putting out these fake stats does not help them. Men go have serious issues that should be addressed, but that is not their goal.

Yes men do serve longer prison sentence, but even the person who did the study said that there are some unseen variables that can't be accounted for, like women tend to cooperate with the police more. What the study also revealed is black women serve the same time as white men and as we know black men serve more time than white men.

This is the system that white men set up and support and now this group wants to cry foul. Maybe they should take an honest look at how the patriarchal society negatively affects all those that have to live under it, instead of whining over lies and 1/2 truths. They really don't care about equality among the sex and racial lines, They want to maintain their superiority over them.
