Charles Manson was a right-wing racist con man.

He had no connection with Sixties values other than in his decision to use those values as a human shield to hide his bloodsoaked white-supremacist agenda.

And the counterculture never deserved to be punished or suppressed for anything Manson or his "family" did.

People like him have existed in every era in history, whether "permissive" or authoritarian.

Manson would have done everything he did even if the Sixties had been exactly like the Fifties, or the Twenties, or any other decade.

at the time, and for decades since, and it was a major thing used to justify crushing the counterculture in the early Seventies.

Please don't always assume I'm referencing something said on DU. We're not limited to discussing what people say here.
