Last edited Mon Nov 20, 2017, 07:40 PM - Edit history (1)
Eight women have told The Washington Post that longtime television host Charlie Rose made unwanted sexual advances toward them, including lewd phone calls, walking around naked in their presence, or groping their breasts, buttocks or genital areas.
The women were employees or aspired to work for Rose at the Charlie Rose show from the late 1990s to as recently as 2011. They ranged in age from 21 to 37 at the time of the alleged encounters. Rose, 75, whose show airs on PBS and Bloomberg TV, also co-hosts CBS This Morning and is a contributing correspondent for 60 Minutes.
There are striking commonalities in the accounts of the women, each of whom described their interactions with Rose in multiple interviews with The Post. For all of the women, reporters interviewed friends, colleagues or family members who said the women had confided in them about aspects of the incidents. Three of the eight spoke on the record.

(51,674 posts)That was fast. Did they even do any investigations first? This could be true but proof is needed.
I guess this will be the new normal (more and more of this will be coming out and some of it may be false equivalencies).
We must stay focused and also not get sucked into the orchestrated distractions.
Focus on Russia, taxes, healthcare, the 2018 midterms, etc.
Let's not become the National Inquirer on DU.

He doesn't seem the type to walk around nude etc. But then some Fundie is in shock when one of thiers is getting it from behind over his office desk so that's how it goes if true.

(44,985 posts)Thats why I look at threads about sticking to one gender as far as the 2020 nominee, which sounds all well and good on its face, and think yeah because nobody will ever accuse a female presidential nominee of something she didnt do. That would neeever happen.
In case its needed

(12,486 posts)This is now a Media Frenzy....it will not serve anyone...
This is not any different than McCarthyism.... Everyone was a Communist... innocent lives destroyed....I'm an evidence based individual who is skeptical....claims are subjective...file a report when any abuse occurs... otherwise... don't make claims 5-10 years after the fact.

(12,486 posts)Normalizing his abuse.
Of just how widespread and insidious this behavior is.
The WaPo story on Rose claims there are 8 women.
FarPoint
(12,486 posts)Today, the ancient cry out of harassment now is grossly diminished...
This is equal to McCarthyism....destructive without evidence...

Yes, I'm serious... enough with claims...file charges or they can shut up .... Evidence is needed...complaints need to be timely...it's fair.

Shut up? That's sickening.

(720 posts)That happened 30+ years ago. So should we ignore those claims?
ClarendonDem
(720 posts)Cosby's accusers didn't file charges, etc., etc., etc. So all these women need to "shut up"?
FarPoint
(12,486 posts)Claims/ assults and such with such socially triggered feelings should be exposed with due process...not Trial by Media...Cosby and soon Weinstein's complaints will go to a court...for due process. Fairly processed...

(720 posts)So you agree that Roy Moore should serve his full term as senator from Alabama, unless convicted by a court? And Donald Trump committed no wrong, since he's never been convicted of any crime?

(720 posts)So the accusations are ridiculous or prevalence of sexual assault? I'd go with the latter.

(22,976 posts)With so many high-profile men having to face up to their shitty behavior (past and present), the overall picture becomes murkier. which leads to simple-minded conclusions such as Al Franken's inconsiderate, crude foolishness cast as equal in magnitude to Roy Moore's repeated stalking pedophilia, or Bill Cosby's drugging/raping his victims. It feels wrong and sexist to even suggest that there are differing levels of offense, but we do exist in a world of spectrums and scales and degrees.
If these revelations continue, and they likely will, their impact cannot avoid being dulled by sheer repetition and numbers, to the point where the public will allow these heartbreaking accounts to simply slip away into the ether.
It's a sticky wicket -- because these men SHOULD pay the price for what they've done. Exactly how to achieve this without the public thinking, "Oh, here we go again," and turning away, eludes me at present. But it needs to be sorted out, and the sooner, the better.
