http://www.zdnet.com/article/imgur-reveals-hackers-stole-login-data/Imgur, one of the world's most visited websites, has confirmed a hack dating back to 2014.
The company told ZDNet that hackers stole 1.7 million email addresses and passwords, scrambled with the SHA-256 algorithm, which has been passed over in recent years in favor of stronger password scramblers.
Imgur said the breach didn't include personal information because the site has "never asked" for real names, addresses, or phone numbers.
The stolen accounts represent a fraction of Imgur's 150 million monthly users.
We might want to keep this kicked for a day or so. A lot of DU'ers use Imgur. I almost put this in CHaS but I thought it was more important than our usual forum.

What Can You Do?
We recommend that you use a different combination of email and password for every site and application. Please always use strong passwords and update them frequently.

(816 posts)3. This is why you shouldn't use the same password
for everything, like too many people do, and why you shouldn't use the same e-mail for everything, like too many people do.
You can use a junk email address and any old password for facebook, imgur, DU, etc, etc, etc. But you should never use the same email address OR password for banking or for e-commerce sites that have your personal info. And sensitive sites (banks, mutual fund companies, other investment sites, SSA), should all have unique passwords and an email account that isn't used for forums, internet shopping, etc, etc.
